DGA Announces Nominees for 2012 Best Director Award

Posted: January 9th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
DGA Announces Nominees for 2012 Best Director AwardSubmit Comment
The Directors Guild of America (DGA) has revealed the five nominees for its 2012 award. The list is not surprising and will likely be mirrored when the Academy Awards announces its nominees in the Best Director category.

The DGA will announce the winner on January 28th and it will be a good indication who will win the Oscar. Ever since the guild started giving out awards in 1948, only six times did their winner not gone on to win at the Academy Awards. Last year, Tom Hooper won the DGA award for "The King's Speech." The film went on to win the Oscar for Best Picture and Best Director.

Check out the list of nominees below and let us know if you agree with the choices.

And the nominees are (in alphabetical order):
* Woody Allen (Midnight in Paris)
* David Fincher The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo)
* Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist)
* Alexander Payne (The Descendants)
* Martin Scorsese (Hugo)

Michel Hazanavicius for "The Artist" will definitely get it ! So original and still communicative as a silent movie.

Woody Allen deserves it too though. He didn't make a decent movie since "Deconstructing Harry" and "Midnight in Paris" is very original & amusing. I hope he didn't make a mistake by choosing Mr penis-noose aka Owen Wilson.

So "director" category will be interesting when it comes to Academy award.

Academy owns Fincher for not giving him last year win (politics), yet this movie is nowhere near as good as his early work, not to mention GWTDT is a remake(that didn't stop Departed), and violent movie for Academy. But Academy ignored Fincher for too long. So we will see.

Then there is Woody Allen, a critics favorite, but which movies i personally hate. His last nomination was in 2006, and last Oscar that he won was in mid 80ies i believe. Still i don't believe he will get it for director, probably for writing tho.

And there is the wild card - Michel Hazanavicius. The guy i've never heard of, but has incredible buzz around him. And Artist (i haven't seen it) seems to have the exact amount of classy, artsy, and pretentiousness for winning the award.

Clever, Swai, very clever. The old 'meds' retort.

What's next, some 'yo mama' jokes?

"seems to have the exact amount of classy, artsy, and pretentiousness for winning the award."

Which is to say, 'Artist' was generated, ironically and cynically, NOT for artistry, but only with an eye to win awards.
