Paul Rudd to Freeze People in "Freezing People is Easy"

Paul Rudd to Freeze People in "Freezing People is Easy"Submit Comment
Paul Rudd, Owen Wilson, Kristen Wiig, and Christopher Walken are in talks for "Freezing People Is Easy," a script by Zach Helm (Stranger Than Fiction) that Academy Award-winning filmmaker Errol Morris will direct.

Inspired by the memoir "We Froze The First Man" and an episode of "This American Life," the film tells the true story of Bob Nelson, a 1960s Los Angeles television repairman who tried to pioneer the field of cryogenics by freezing humans. He quickly discovered that it was more difficult than he imagined.

The cast is pretty much locked — Rudd has been attached for months to play Nelson — though "Bridesmaids" star Wiig is the variable: she's completing her run on "Saturday Night Live" and poring over several offers. The intention is to shoot for a mid-2012 start date.

So, is this a doc*m-drama, or a comedy, because I can see how they could make it a comical farce, given that Nelson's company CSC poorly froze one guy, and had issues with several other bodies thawing out, even though Nelson paid to keep them frozen out of his own pocket.

Another thing is that Bob Nelson didn't pioneer cryonics, per se, but he was one of its modern founders, even though the idea of freezing people to restore them later is a quite old idea.

The other thing I wanted to say is that cryogenically freezing people just doesn't work.

Why?

Simple. How much of the human body is water? Lots.

And what happens when you freeze water? It turns to ice.

And what happens when you melt ice? It turns back to water mixed with ragged shards of ice, shards that slice and dice cells, including (ba-bing!) neurons. No neurons, no wakey-wakey.

Now folks in the field of cryonics are using 'cryoprotectants' (substances injected into the body to control ice formation) like glycerol, glucose and ethylene glycol (you know, that sh*t some guy drank to kill himself) during a process known as vitrification...

I won't say anymore because I know no one gives a sh*t. But cool stuff regardless.

@BC Well at least what I wrote wasn't any more obnoxious than that 'Devil Inside' sh*t.

Now I have to look at that ugly woman's tatoo'ed lower lip for the next f*cking week.

No sh*t, especially since you have that rollover sh*t on here. It's gonna annoy the sh*t out of me till Alex fixes it.

Not sure what to make of it. doesn't sound stupid but it doesn't sound very good either. Sounds like something that might fade away from ours and hollywoods minds after a few months or something, but you never know.

Sounds like an interesting premise. I hate Wiig, so hopefully her schedule prevents her from ever making another film. Any role she would play in this movie could be done by any other actress.

Errol Morris is an interesting choice to direct. I've seen The Fog of War and enjoyed it. Haven't seen any of his docs though. It'll be interesting to see what he can do with this.
