"Mission: Impossible 4" Tops Christmas Box Office Weekend

"Mission: Impossible 4" Tops Christmas Box Office WeekendSubmit Comment
"Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" opened wide over the Christmas weekend and ended up topping the domestic box office with $26 million. The film, which cost $145 million and still has an impressive 93% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes, has now grossed a total of $161 million worldwide.

All three new releases didn't perform well domestically. David Fincher's "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" landed in fourth place with $13 million. The film has an 85% fresh rating, but will have to perform well internationally to make back its $90 million budget.

Steven Spielberg's "Tintin" grossed only $9.1 million domestically, but when you add its international total, the film has already earned $256 million. A sequel, to be directed by Peter Jackson, is already in the works.

Meanwhile, Matt Damon's "We Bought a Zoo" grossed only $7.8 million, which was only good enough for sixth place. The film has a fresh rating of 61%.

MI4, has grossed a total of $161 million dollars worldwide. Tintin, has a worldwide earnings of $256 million worldwide, and a sequel is already in the works. MI4 was great, although some scenes were boring. Tintin was good, although i don't know if i am gonna watch the sequel. I will wait for both trailers first before making any judgement.

Tom's Biggest mistake was not jumping on a couch or being a Scientologist (since Will Smith can get away with it). No, his mistake was putting down drugs that 10% of Americans are currently taking and much more have taken at one point or another. Antidepressants and being over weight is a touchy subject with Americans. They like to believe it's not bad for them. Get some exercise like Tom said it'll do you some good ;)

Great news for Mission Impossible 4.

It is sad for Daniel Craig, Cowboys and Alien didn't do well either.

Let's hope Dragon Tatto does well international since Skyfall is coming out next year.

Both MI4 and Dragon Tatoo were decent films but neither lived up to their hype and the box office shows it.

I still say MI3 was a lot better than Ghost Protocol. I wasn't that happy that they didn't capitalize on the darker more violent direction JJ had taken the series. The comic relief was fine but felt a little out of place after the blood and guts approach of MI3. Also, like most other viewers, I didn't like the villain in GP. Really, some old fat guy from origins unknown who's surprising faster on his feet than Olympic track star wannabe Tom Cruise, is the best they could do? That was almost as lame as his outdated evil plot to start a nuclear war between Russia and America. Still, the film did have its high points and didn't lack in the entertainment department, so its worth seeing for yourself.

GWDT just didn't have the edge I thought it would. Between its famously dark director and soundtrack composer and its even darker lead character I thought I was in for some twisted triller the likes of Seven. What it delivered was a somewhat watered down high society murder mystery with an extremely predictable climax. Now I realize that this was just the into to the series, but I still expected more from all the hype.

All in all this just caps off an extremely mediocre year for film IMO. But judging from the trailers, 2012 could have a lot better in store for us.

@sac
Yet too see The Girl, but that's what the novel was about. Nothing new, just a classical "whodunit" with a fresh titular character. As shot by Ficher must be one good looking and solid thriller without much surprise. Werent

@Kurskij: The only things I noticed that were unique to Fincher's style were the soundtrack and the title sequence. Everything else could have been shot by anyone.

The girl that plays Lizbeth does have an extremely hot little body though and Fincher sure doesn't mind showing it off.

I hope the other installments have edgier mysteries involved. Society murder mysteries are so 90s. Reminded me too much of that Garden of Good and Evil John Cusack snoozefest.

"The garden of good and evil" is lying on a shelf waiting for another watch. Saw it about 5 or 6 years ago - that's what I remember - snoozefest with some decent performances. Eastwood directed it, right?

I'll reserve my judgement about The Girl till I see it. I liked "Zodiac", so maybe it's my type of movie.

Rooney Mara is hawt for sho. Her sister isn't bad either.
