"New Year's Eve" Tops a Very Weak Box Office Weekend

The star-studded "New Year's Eve" topped the domestic box office this weekend with slightly under $14 million. The new movie cost $56 million and has a 7% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes.

The overall revenues fell to their lowest levels in more than three years. "The box office was just in really bad shape," said Warner Bros. "While we had the No. 1 movie, we were No. 1 in a very soft market."

Taking second place is Jonah Hill's "The Sitter" comedy with $10 million. The film, which will likely make back its $25 million budget, has a 22% fresh rating. "We opened in line with our pre-release expectations, and we'll continue to play as the college crowd finishes up finals," said 20th Century Fox.

"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" fell to third place, grossing an additional $7.9 million for a worldwide total of $633 million.

On the specialty side, "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy," which has an 86% fresh rating, earned the third best opening of the year for a limited release with $300,737 from just four theaters. That's an average of $75,184 per theater. The only films to score higher averages this year were "Midnight in Paris" ($99,834) and "The Tree of Life" ($93,000).

Charlize Theron's "Young Adult" also opened to strong numbers, grossing $320,000 from eight theaters for a per-location average of $40,000. The film cost only $12 million to make and has a 78% fresh rating. It will expand to $1,000 on Friday (December 16th).

"7% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes"

- Those critics must have gotten laid recently and were feeling like happy f*cking campers to be that generous with this incredibly cheesy piece of manure.

'It will expand to $1,000 on Friday (December 16th).' --- $1000. WP, or 1000 theaters?

Amazing news, I did expect New Year's Eve go to the top of the box office since it got a all star cast.

The reviews for this move are bad and the critics are explaining it's got too much characters and the film hasn't got a story just like Valetine's Day.

I think the movie was No 1. because the market was bad.

I think everybody saw that New Years Eve had Ludacris,Bon Jovi,Ashton Coochie so they saved their money and did other productive things.

The sitter looks kinda funny but not funny enough to be 10 bucks
