Lars Von Trier NOT Going to Jail Over Hitler Comments

Lars Von Trier NOT Going to Jail Over Hitler CommentsSubmit Comment
Back in May, director Lars Von Trier was banned from the Cannes Film Festival for calling himself a Nazi and sympathizing with Hitler. Things got worse when Grasse prosecutor's office announced that they defamation charges will be filed against the filmmaker for "justifying war crimes," which is punishable by up to five years in jail.

Now comes word that charges have been dropped and the case has officially been closed. "There was no intention on the part of Mr. Von Trier to commit the act of 'justifying war crimes,'" said prosecutor Jean-Michel Cailleau. "He expressed himself in a language that wasn't his own and also under very stressful circumstances."

Despite dropping the charges, Cailleau said: "We were of course shocked by his words, and it was natural for the associations involved to react as they did."

Of course he won't go to jail, unless he's in Israel when he made that statement. Anyway, I won't be surprised if couple of months from now he'll be found laying on the street.

You've got to be f*cking kidding me. People are still talking about this? It was clearly a joke that got lost in translation because of his poor English.

Well f*ckit! English is my fourth language and I'm not endorsing Nazis and these "stressful circ*mstances" are what exactly?

Justice is blind and retarded.

This subject is so sensitive that I don't know if can comment about it or not. Pretty soon, they will forbid you to pronounce the word "Jew" because you'll be classed as anti-Semitic.

If all the prosecutor had to go on was for a person saying they were a 'Nazi' was also they condoning war crimes. No wonder this useless mess is being thrown out.

Calling someone Jeffrey Dahmer doesn't distinguish whether you mean they eat people or they like killing people, packing them on ice in the bath tub, so they're nice and fresh to f*ck when one c*ms home after a day on the job.

Even moreso now that the dont-ask-dont-tell policy has been reversed....

As for the idiot making the idiotic Nazi comments (or as he called them, comedy), well, the most ridiculous aspect of the entire 'incident' is that he would have ever been taken to jail anyway. f*cking French *ssholes.

What they aren't saying is that they wanted to arrest him but could not track him down. I heard a rumor that he escaped by U-boat to south America. Brazil maybe
minkowski writes:

I think Americans hate Hitler because he's what we call a loser: He didn't finish the job.

Seriously though, if Hitler hadn't killed a bunch of Jews, he'd be as wonderfully memorable as Napolean, or more. Like anyone cares about the Rumanians, or Poland, or Czechoslovakia. Or Russia for that matter.
