WWE Wrestler Chris Benoit Biopic in the Works

WWE Wrestler Chris Benoit Biopic in the WorksSubmit Comment
SRG Films has announced that it is in development on "Crossface," a film about WWE wrestler Chris Benoit that's based on the book "Ring of Hell: The Story of Chris Benoit and the Fall of the Pro Wrestling Industry" by Matthew Randazzo V.

"Crossface," a biographical thriller, delves into the pressures WWE superstar Chris Benoit faced throughout his wrestling career as the combination of drug-use, depression, and head trauma became increasingly impossible for him to handle. The true story made headline news in 2007 when Chris murdered his wife and young son before taking his own life.

SRG Films head Dale Alexander Carnegie is producing the film, while William Morris Endeavor (WME) is on board to package the project. Former Weinstein Company staffer, Sarah Coulter, turned in the first draft of the script in mid-October.

"All of us grow up believing that wrestling is fake, but looking at the shocking number of deaths in the industry, it quickly becomes evident that there is nothing fake about the dangers of this sport," Carnegie said. "Chris Benoit has become a poster child for everything that's wrong with professional wrestling and Sarah's terrific script captures his struggles and the many factors that led to the deaths of three people."

SRG Films, currently in talks with directors and actors, plans to begin filming in the fall of 2012.

Who can play the Rabid Wolverine? He was kinda short and buff. They also need A Eddie Guerrero and they can have Dean Malenko play himself, I just wanna see the Dungeon, of course a lot of wrestlers are dead now, they all knew how to live back in the days.

Nope, good coffee. And Brett was grateful for I showing him how the dispenser worked.

So... happy ending.

Before one of you say It, I know making a movie him won't be that good, I could think of many other who deserve a movie before him (Brett Heart) don't get me wrong on that. But the guys brain was fried, he had the mental capacity of a 12 year old from the years of wrestling. He Was almost Retarded because of it.. Doctors said he most likely didn't even know what he was doing, And when he finally realized, he killed himself (In what I've heard)

I´m not agree with this..... First, because the man murder his family and second, it totally destroy the face of Sport Entertainment. The WWE, even doesn´t recognize him a champion among the others.....

This could turn great if it will a horror movie, in the other case. Just f*ck it!!!!!

Rise and Fall of the wrestling industry? For all I can tell the industry didn't skip a beat when he (or any of the countless other wrestlers) died. Its a human circus, and the show must go on. The Wrestler was about all I needed to show the struggles and destructive nature of that lifestlye.

If anything, I'd love to see a on Hulk Hogan's life. There's nobody that's seen the best and the worst of the industry like him. He's the Michael Jordan of prowrestling and is most directly responsible for what it has become, good and bad.

I'm not going to read any more about this project so I won't learn of the ending, which I assume will be happy, like most wrestling film endings

Is that what I get for defending your sorry slickbacked weekend rent-a-cop bottom-of-the-class ass when everyone on here wanted to rip you into the lettuce-picking piece of sh*t you are?

No good deed goes unpunished, and this just clinches what I always suspected about you.

"To America! Milking their dead since: forever."

It's the American way! Of course, what would Bando know about America? He came over here in a fish cooler.

I feel compelled to apologize to all my fellow WP'ers. Bando can't reply at the moment. He's consumed by the time comsuming process of observing and reporting teenage girls in the food court.

Not a single motherf*cking c*nt that kills his wife and kid deserve a movie. He deserves people pissing on his grave.
SACdaddy writes:

Dude thought the devil was after him and was having conversations with the ghost of his dead friend Eddie. He hung himself with his own weight machine hours (or days, I cant remember) after offing his wife and kid. Sounds like a pretty good horror movie to me. Not very original though.
Midnight_Toker writes:

This movie won't work. We all know how it goes and ends. Only way to make it interesting is by putting a twist at the ending where Chris Benoit gets into heaven.

@ Ranger

"Chris murdered his wife and young son before taking his own life"
no i meant chris lol

but id much rather see a film based on the life of Owen Heart (not brett heart, i said the wrong person lol)

Am i the only one who thinks a movie based on owen heart is long overdo ?

Ranger writes:

@Tanman - thx. for the clarity.

I don't know if a movie on Owen alone has the fan base. If they did one about professional wrestling over-all... and Owen was a tribute section, sure.

This sounds so dumb a blonde could misquote it. Why oh why does someone think this is a good idea? Let me get this straight. A man with no talent or morals who competes in fake sporting events and fake interviews and lives a fake life is having a fake/true story movie being made about his fake/true life and how he couldn't handle his life of being fake and having a tiny penis(because of the roids) and set out on a roid rage murder scene of his family and himself?
vincere01 writes:

Great f*cking idea Hollywood. This sounds about as appealing as watching bando and mink work out they're differences in a mud wrestling ring in speedos. Whoever loses has to say the other is the greatest American alive. That's a good idea right? I kid....I kid....
Adamtheflash writes:

As a life long wrestling fan, I can say that Chris Benoit was an amazing performer. I was a huge fan. Some of his matches with Kurt Angle were some of the best. I feel sick to my stomach anytime I read anything about this tragedy. Even years removed, making fun of it shows really poor taste.

The WWE did something right when they deleted Benoit from all of its records. There's no doubt that pro wrestling has its flaws. But the WWE has done a lot since the Benoit tragedy to try to change its image and protect the performers. Whether they have done enough I can't answer.

I think enough of those flaws have been exposed and society knows about them. Making a film about Benoit would be wrong and nothing new would be revealed.
Adamtheflash writes:
on December 5th, 2011 at 2:06:07 AM

and before the comments start pouring in, I know that wrestling is fake. That doesn't mean that these performers aren't good at what they do.

They deserve a better existence than what the industry allows them to have. If you haven't seen The Wrestler, I highly recommend it. It portrays a lot of what is wrong with pro wrestling without using a tragedy like Benoit to tell the store.

This is my last comment I swear. I should make it clear that I do not condone what Benoit did. He was a sick and twisted guy, and has no excuse for his actions. I was a fan, but am not any longer....
