Jared Harris Joins Steven SpielbergSubmit Comment
Steven Spielberg is moving forward with his "Lincoln" movie by casting Jared Harris (Sherlock Holmes 2, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) in the key role of Ulysses S Grant. He joins Daniel Day-Lewis (There Will be Blood) and Sally Field, who will play Lincoln and his wife.

The film will focus on the political collision of Lincoln and the powerful men of his cabinet on the road to abolition and the end of the Civil War. Grant, who later became the 18th president, was the most successful Union general, starting with victories at Shiloh and Vicksburg.

The script is written by Tony Kusher (Munich) and is based on "Team of Rivals" by Doris Kearns Goodwin. A release date has yet to be set.

Damn...I thought he'll be portraying John Wilkes Booth. Oh well, I'll wait and see if this movie will be worth every penny.

Daniel Day-Lewis is kind of how I imagine Lincoln looking anyway. Probably because of the similarities to the Butcher. Also political films like this always seem to be biased and glorify the wrong people I wonder If they'll stay true to history.

Spielberg cant go wrong with this cast.so dont make it boring and f*ck it up it.Your last good movie was Munich and that was years ago

and the Vampire version of Lincoln sounds like a guilty pleasure bloodbath with some Johny Rebs and former slaves. So blame it on the Crazy Russian guy that directed the Nighwatch,Daywatch movies.

I wonder if that executive-producing monkey Spielberg is aware good old Honest Abe was something of a white supremacist?

Yeah, he freed the slaves, but he didn't want to.

And he even had a plan to make slavery permanent just to keep the South from ceding, constitutionally I might add, from the Union.

What did Lincoln say after a weeklong drunkfest?

"I freed who?!"

And I quote:

"I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races, that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race."

There you go, Stevie.

I think it's just funny, hilarious, ironic even, that you have a leftwing, very liberal Jewish director making a film on a guy that couldn't care less what happned to the slaves as long as they weren't moving into his neighborhood, a guy that would've thought riding in the back of the bus was too good for blacks.

As for racist presidents, Lyndon Johnson was by far one of the worst.

According to what I've read, he once commented that by manipulating civil rights initiatives, and I quote, he "would have those n*ggers voting Democrat for a hundred years".
