Ron Howard Developing "Doc Holliday" TV Series for HBO

Ron Howard Developing "Doc Holliday" TV Series for HBOSubmit Comment
HBO is developing a TV series based on "Doc," a novel by Mary Doria Russell about the life of Doc Holliday, a famed gambler and gunslinger of the Old West. Ron Howard is attached to direct the pilot from a script by "Accepted" screenwriters Adam Cooper and Bill Collage. Akiva Goldsman is producing.

Doc Holliday is often portrayed as an ailing sidekick (he died from tuberculosis at age 36), best known for his friendship with Wyatt Earp and his involvement in the Gunfight at the OK Corral. But the HBO project aims to put Holliday front and center as the series protagonist, an educated Southern gentleman and dentist by trade, thrust into the cruel and violent world of the Old West in order to salvage his ailing health.

The series will feature the never-before-explored love triangle between Holliday, his prostitute wife, Kate Elder and best friend, Wyatt Earp - all set against the lawlessness and desperation of a rapidly changing society.

Val Kilmer previously portrayed Doc Holliday in the movie "Tombstone."

I'd watch this (and not just because it has a whore in it).

Ron Howard has a resume I like. As long as he's more involved, hand-one than just adding his name to the project.

OK, and yeah... I'll watch this mainly because it has a whore in it.

If only Val Kilmer were younger, slimmer, he should totally do this part again in the TV series. f*cking best Western performance is seen in a long time

Beside Unforgiven, Tombstone is always my favorite western film of the 90s!!!!! After all, how is it Wyatt Earp with Kevin Costner, does anyone of you saw it?
pornfly writes:

JOHNNY i used to watch Wyatt Earp till it gets to the Tombstone part then i just watch Tombstone then back to Wyatt Earp. Its more accurate and Wyatt Earps great grandson or sumthn is in it also and Gene Hackman plays Earps dad so thats always a bonus

Its just as accurate srry but its longer so it has more facts

All I needed to hear was that it was on HBO. They can do no wrong. Wonder who they'll get to play Doc? Probably some Brit or Aussies that can play an American better than an American.

Ever since ROME (the most expensive TV series ever made) HBO has been doing some major productions. They must be making some serious bank on home subscriptions now. Can't wait to see what they do with The Dark Tower series.

@SACdaddy

"Wonder who they'll get to play Doc? Probably some Brit or Aussies that can play an American better than an American."

f*ck that! The gambling, boozing, whoring, gunfighting Doc Holiday is nothing short of goddamn American icon for such depraved lowlife sc*m like myself. Ill be a dead dogs dingus if they get some English/Aussie fop to soil his name. The Brits cried foul when Costner played Robin Hood. Fair enough. Then no filthy redcoat should portray one of the greatest murderous bastards of the Old West. He should be played by an American damn it! An American! *sheds a single tear*

...O beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain!...

Even though he had a pretty known role on another Western series, Deadwood, I think Timothy Olyphant would kill this part. He has the look and that twang in his voice, plus he was already great as Sheriff Bullock, so we know he can pull off a cowboy character well...this show can be amazing if they cast Doc right
Wallace writes:

@ SAC: HBO topped itself by making The Pacific cost twice as much as Rome. Still proves your point, though. Oh, and of course there's the brilliant Boardwalk Empire pilot. HBO didn't chicken out, even after Scorsese needed 18 Mio. for one episode.

@ yeLLowfLaSh: Thought he peaked in Heat as well. Small part, top of the game acting.
SACdaddy writes:

@Cannon: LOL!!! Apunte FUEGO!!!

@wallace: Yeah HBO is spendin like crazy, and they're not losing an ounce of quality. Even Enlightened isn't that bad. Laura Dern is hidious but she "plays" a great crazy person on that show.
