"Rampage" 1980's Video Game to Become a MoviePosted: November 18th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
New Line Cinema is developing a big screen adaptation of the classic 1980s "Rampage" video game that features apes and monsters destroying cities.
John Richard (A Nightmare on Elm Street, Horrible Bosses) is producing the new movie and is now meeting with writers to develop a story. The concept of the game revolves around a trio of mild-mannered humans who are mutated into a giant Godzilla-like lizard, a werewolf and a gorilla, and fight the military while destroying buildings. Players controlled the monsters and moved up levels when a city was destroyed.
The game was acquired by Warner Bros from Midway Games back in 2009 for $33 million. The goal is to use the game's title and visuals to develop a big-budget movie.

I'm really fed-up with this old video game to movie idea. Apparently no one in Hollywood is thinking straight anymore.

they should make a movie based on Streets of Rage, Double Dragon, and those other badass ShootEmUp VG based movies instead.

@ Frank_Castle they already did a Double Dragon movie it was horrible. But if done right Rampage could make a good movie. Then again done right anything could be good. And people how do we know Hollywood didn't get the idea 4 Pacific Rim from Rampage

Double Dragon could have been one of the worst movies of all time. Worse than Street Fighter, the chairman from Iron Chef America was in it.

So all these (famous!) producers are embracing the idea of board/arcade games to movie, before they even know whether it's economically viable?
I bet they're going to be one long series of flops, and further bring this economy to hell.
