Trailer for Eddie Murphy's Abandoned "A Thousand Words" Comedy

Back in April we learned that Paramount Pictures was planning to finally release Eddie Murphy's "A Thousand Words" comedy in 2012 after sitting on the film for over three years. The reason for this long delay is the failure of Murphy's "Norbit."

Now comes word that the film, directed by Brian Robbins (Norbit, Meet Dave), is scheduled to hit theaters on March 23rd, 2012. And to promote the release, the studio has unveiled a trailer. Check it out below. Unfortunately, "A Thousand Words" will further hurt Murphy, who just stepped down from hosting the Oscars and saw "Tower Heist" fail at the box office.

Plot: Jack McCall (Murphy) is a fast-talking literary agent who can close any deal, any time, any way. He has set his sights on New Age guru Dr. Sinja for his own selfish purposes. But Dr. Sinja is on to him, and Jack's life comes unglued after a magical Bodhi tree mysteriously appears in his backyard. With every word Jack speaks, a leaf falls from the tree and he realizes that when the last leaf falls, both he and the tree are toast. Words have never failed Jack McCall, but now he's got to stop talking and conjure up some outrageous ways to communicate or he's a goner.

Blah. Somehow Eddie Murphy managed to make a movie that was even more pathetic than Mike Myers the Love Guru.

The man isn't exactly the most talented comedian in the world, but it has always been his knack for the type of fast talking shenanigans which made him a success and a bankable talent. But here it looks like only the first twenty minutes of this movie would feature that primary comedic talent of his.

And the rest of the movie is just a long very tedious journey into a world that serves to only prove that the power of pure physical comedy is way way beyond his own capabilities as a performer.

At least from what I have heard that Tower Heist movie showcases what little talent that Murphy does have, but this movie's whole premise is to strip Murphy of his main comedic ability and replace it with some feel good message that 90% of domestic audiences more than likely won't even get.

Who ever wrote this article must mean Norbit was a failure critically because the f*cking thing made 160 mill.

It doesn't look like the worst film Eddie's made over the past 20 years,

But that ain't saying much

the voice over, the plot, and the feeling really feel dated
HoboSnobo writes:

@Japaninmotion

Thats because it IS dated. this movie was made SEVERAL years ago, and the studio never release it because of the failure and embarrassment of Norbit.

I'm sorry... McCall? Mc?

Who they wrote this screeenplay for? Bruce Willis?

Eddie needs to get back to r-ratings. Or at leas try. Because this PG bullsh*t just doesn't cut it.
