Benicio Del Toro in Talks for Villain Role in "Star Trek 2"Posted: November 5th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
  Paramount Pictures and director JJ Abrams are now hard at work on the upcoming "Star Trek" sequel. And while most of the cast will return for the new film, there are plenty of new roles that need to be filled.
Variety has now learned that Abrams is in the middle of casting the mysterious villain part and Benicio Del Toro (The Wolfman) is expected to be offered the job, possibly by the end of the weekend. Insiders say that the actor has already met with Abrams, but still doesn't know all the details of the secret role.
"Star Trek 2" is written by Alex Kurtzman, Robert Orci and Damon Lindelof. The plan is to begin shooting this January. A release date has yet to be set.

@Avirex: Del Toro got his start playing a villain in the James Bond series.
Good to hear the sequel is being developed, but getting Benecio on board is even better. Lets hope they give him more material than they gave Eric Bana. I thought they kind of wasted him in the last film.

@SeWerin
Certainly looks that way. Thought they won't go the "Kahn" route as they have an alternate timeline now.
As a guess I would say he could be...
Spocks older brother..from "The Final Frontier"
Unless they are introducing the "Klingons"

I hope Abrams jams a hot poker up Toros ass during filming. The methadone-inspired performance Toro gave in Wolfman was HORRIBLE.

Yeah what other role as a Star Trek villain would they have to keep secret?
Hell, if you could name any of the Star Trek movie villains from any Star Trek movie besides Khan, you're probably wearing fake Vulcan ears right now, or have Klingon listed as your primary language.
And let's not forget that in the commentary at the end of the first JJ Adams movie that he mentioned that they had thought about ending the movie with a space shot of an older style spaceship with the faded words "Botany Bay" on the side.

With the new timeline created in the first, it would be brilliant to have Del Toro play Kahn. And just as they showed that Spock and Kirk's friendship can develop in any timeline, it would be great for them to show Kahn and Kirk's hatred can develop in this alternate timeline as well. Sure it may sound too Smallville-ish but Abrahms can succeed where they failed in truly developing that friendship deteriorating into bitter enemies relationship.

@JohnZee: I'm a hugh Star Trek fan but I don't want around with fake ears or a Federation uniform. I just love the show, movies and character. Don't paint us all with the same brush.

I'd rather see them do something different than Khan. Khan was a great character in a great movie so leave it the f*ck alone... if thats possible.
