Andy Serkis Signs On for "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" Sequel

Andy Serkis Signs On for "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" SequelSubmit Comment
"Rise of the Planet of the Apes" became a big hit for 20th Century Fox, grossing $453 million worldwide while also impressing critics. Now comes word that the studio is working on a sequel, which is a top priority.

And while James Franco and Freida Pinto have yet to be brought back, Fox has just closed a hefty deal with Andy Serkis, who will reprise his role as lead ape Caesar. The studio will also wage an Oscar campaign for Serkis for his work in the first movie.

None of the actors had multi-picture deals that would force them to return for future installments, but director Rupert Wyatt, and writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver did. The second film is still in the idea stage. Franco and Pinto will wait for the script to see if they want to return. Luckily, the ending of "Apes" makes it possible to cut both of the actors out.

Probably the best movie all summer, I'll look forward to a sequel for once.

Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes is one of the best movies of the year.

Andy Serkis did a amazing job as Caesar, his performance was the best part of the movie and he deserves a Oscar for his work, that's for sure.

I hope Serkis, Franco and Pinto will return for the sequel.

Also maybe having Rupert Wyatt return too, he's a great director and the film was better than expected.

Andy Serkis is the ONLY actor I would ever give an Oscar to for a motion-capture role because he puts more than the body movements into a character. He frikkin' CREATES a whole person with everything from facial movements to body language to anything else! He should have won for Gollum.

Andy Serkis really deserves a nomination. I would love to see Meryl Streep try to put as much emotion in a CGI-character as Serkis.

I'd love to see Brian Cox's character seeking vengeance for the death of his son in the sequel

Caesar - the best character of 2011 - and he is not even human nor real.

He is the heart and soul of movie and critics should acknowledge that

If the Academy wants their ratings to go up and not down where no Lohan has gone before - they must nominate Serkis.

He's a chameleon - whether it's motion capture work or classic acting - I didn't recognize him in King-Kong in his human role.

He and Oldman must be nominated - both are more than deserving.

Serkis is probably the best monkey ever. That safe house movie with Reynolds looks like his best motion capture to date.

Yea this one and the original were the best

The ones in between were good enough for fire wood in the fireplace

"Rise" was such an amazing film and Serkis wasn't just the actor playing this ape, he WAS the ape. Of course I'm looking forward to the sequel.
