Actors Got Trapped in Plummeting Elevator in New YorkSubmit Comment
After the New York premiere party of "Janie Jones," director David Rosenthal and actors Josh Charles (Four Brothers, SWAT) and Alessandro Nivola (Jurassic Park 3, Face/Off) all stepped into an elevator on the sixteenth floor of the Gramercy Park Hotel. There were a total of twelve people inside the elevator, which stopped a few flights down to pick up more passengers.

When the two additional people jumped in, the elevator started to plummet down. The door was still open and they could see the floors rushing by. "I think we fell eight stories before the emergency brake went off," said Rosenthal. "[The last passenger's] is lucky she didn't get killed because her foot was barely inside the door when the elevator dropped."

The crowd of fourteen was stuck below the second floor. At first everyone was happy to be alive, but then started to panic as time passed. Eventually Alessandro's brother alerted the hotel staff that something was wrong. The staff eventually managed to pry open the elevator doors, but didn't know how to get everyone out.

One of the passengers suddenly dropped his glass, which broke on the floor, and climbed through the gap between the elevator and the opening, fearing that the elevator may move and crush him. He then turned around and helped get the rest of the group out. FDNY arrived by the time everyone was already rescued.

The hotel is apologetic, but Charles still made the following statement: "If anyone stays at the Gramercy, take out insurance before you ride the elevator. If you go to the Gramercy, try not to die. Use the stairs."

Why couldn't have been LaDouche and the whole Twatlight cast?

"I think we fell eight stories before the emergency brake went off," said Rosenthal" ---- you 'think'? C'mon, you're a Jew. You can count.

This happened to me once... almost exactly. Fortunately there was a mother with a newborn stapped to her chest. I pushed them both face first out the open doorway as the floors rushed by. Fortunately the baby's spine...

OK... that's enough. Just threw up a little.

That was scary, just show that not everyone can't fit in a small elevator.

Lucky this didn't turn into a sad tragdey.

Next time, uses the stairs just in case.

He wanted to get out because everybody probably shat their pantalones.

Aren't hotel lifts usually limited to like 9 people..? WAY TO COUNT! 14 is somewhat more..
Ranger writes:

@judo - nope. It depends on the lift for that building. Well... maybe not having Kirstie Alley, Rosie and Oprah on the same elevator is a good call... so, I hear ya.
