"In Living Color" Returns to Fox with New CastSubmit Comment
Deadline has learned that Fox is bringing back its 1990 sketch comedy series "In Living Color," which will be hosted and produced by Keenen Ivory Wayans, the creator of the show. The network has ordered two half-hour specials to air as part of its 25th anniversary celebration. If successful, "In Living Color" will become part of the regular schedule next season.

The original show helped launch the careers of a slew of comedy actors, including Wayans; his siblings Damon, Shawn, Kim and later Marlon; as well as Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx and David Alan Grier - and of course Jennifer Lopez, who was one of the Fly Girls. It spawned such iconic characters as Homey D. Clown (Damon Wayans), Wanda (Jamie Foxx) and Fire Marshall Bill (Jim Carrey).

"In Living Color" ended its run in 1994 after five seasons. Wayans is planning to revive the sketch comedy with a new cast.

Chances of this being as good as the last show? Very slim. This generation is way too PC to be funny anymore.

I don't know.

The fundamental flaw is that the Wayans make each performer or anyone else that could possible come up with sketch ideas or characters sign an agreement stipulating that they forever own 100% of every concept.

And we see how well that worked out when you compare how many In Living Color sketches and characters eventually got major motion picture movies made using them, and how many SNL based movies have been made since In Living Color first aired.

So basically because their greedy f*cks on the front end, the Wayans Brothers effectively f*cked themselves completely out of any possibility of ever using any of their shows characters created by Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx and David Alan Grier and others...

...And let's face it they could have made a sh*t load of money with Carrey or Foxx after he won that Oscar.

And that doesn't even go into the fact that nowadays there's a nice amount of income that could be generated by them putting a particular clip on the internet and keep it on there ten to twenty years completely screwing the performers out of any cut of that because it isn't technically syndicated reruns.

SNL has lost almost all of its humor in the last 10 years, I think anything they do will be funnier than SNL,, but there is no way it will be even close to being as funny as the original In living color, oh well, we can always hope.

lol.

I (honestly) doubt this will succeed. The original show had that magic (writing and cast).
SACdaddy writes:

@JohnZee: I think the creative control issue camee about because of what FOX did to destroy the original series. They took more and more control of the show as the years went on systematically cutting the Wayans out of the picture piece by piece until there was nobody left but Jim Carrey. Keenan vowed to never let that happen again to anything he produced or created, and I have to say it from an artistic standpoint he's totally justified to do so.

All that being said, the world does need a Homie D Clown feature film right about now.

I hope we get an entirely new cast. Everyone that was part of the old one is well beyond their prime.

Homie the Clown and Eddie Murphy's 'Gumby' should make a movie together.
