Eddie Murphy Working on "Beverly Hills Cop" TV Series

Eddie Murphy Working on "Beverly Hills Cop" TV SeriesSubmit Comment
Rolling Stone magazine caught up with Eddie Murphy, who revealed that he's done with family films and believes that a fourth "Beverly Hills Cop" movie will likely be turned into a TV series.

"I don't have any interest in that right now," he said about family films. "There's really no blueprint, but I'm trying to do some edgy stuff. And I only want to do what I really want to do, otherwise I'm content to sit here and play my guitar all day."

Regarding "Beverly Hills Cop 4," Murphy explained: "They're not doing it. What I'm trying to do now is produce a TV show starring Axel Foley's son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit. I'd do the pilot, show up here and there. None of the movie scripts were right; it was trying to force the premise. If you have to force something, you shouldn't be doing it. It was always a rehash of the old thing. It was always wrong."

How can he have a son old enough to be a cop? In Beverly Hills Cop III it was 1994. if he had a son immideatly after that movie he would only be 16 now.

@Taco This.... is no place for logic.

"I don't have any interest in that right now," he said about family films.

Translation: "Every movie I've done since Beverly Hills Cop was a complete f*cking failure. I'm going to try and milk the Beverly Hills Cop name as long as I can because I'm tired of sharing a one bedroom apartment with Wesley Snipes."

@tt - BHC3 being one of the worst movies ever... exactly!

Even when Murphy did Letterman to promote that movie, he brought along the clip of Eddie' balancing on top of the ferris wheel (if memory serves) and it was so CLEARLY green-screened, even Dave was chuckling during the clip. Priceless. Then Eddie was in some animal costume in the movie, yes? Don't remember it all... I've blocked most of it out.

We can all banter about here and there. But let's (all) stand back and look at Eddie's career (objectively?).

He was hot as hell coming out of SNL. He even left SNL early because he was wooed with a $15mil - 3 movie contract.

His stand-up 'Delirious' = funny.
'RAW' = sucked.

Trading Places and 48 hours funny. The brief cameo in that movie with he in a tank sucked. But not his fault, he wasn't headlining the movie. Then he tried a more serious edge with Harlem Nights (was it?), and that tanked.

He crapped out a kid or two... then he does the family movie thing (we've seen that from a few actors with new kids) - and they = Zzzzzz...

They he makes (probably) his most $'s voicing for a donkey (several times) in SHREK.

Eddie's barely a one-trick pony. No range. And box office (with the exception of SHREK - which carried Eddie via Mike Myers and the animation itself) dictates that the public is done with him. And don't get me started on Norbit or Pluto Nash (cult fav's to some maybe).

Having said that... if he's given a chance, and something decent comes along he shines (Dream Girls). But Hollywood seems to not want to give this brotha a chance anymore.

nice post(s) Ranger

Yeah BHC3 sucked soooooo bad, When the main douche bag villian did a Macaulay Culkin Home Alone YES !! after blowing (c*ck most likely)something up you knew Murphy and John Landis (bad choice of director for this franchise)had dropped the ball on this one.

Early Murphy was awesome all the films you've said he had that raw energy that was explosive on screen.

But as he's got older he just hasn't been able to adapt into an actor that people want to go and see.

His list of films from the early 90's on is truly terrible so many stinkers even Nicholas Cage looks down at him.

He hasn't got the charisma of someone like Richard Pryor, So he's found success playing a Donkey which pretty much sums his career up.
