"Paranormal Activity 3" Breaks Records at Box OfficeSubmit Comment
The third "Paranormal Activity" film grossed a whopping $54 million at the domestic box office, earning the biggest opening for a horror film, as well as the best October debut ever.

The prequel also performed well overseas, where the film grossed another $26 million, for a worldwide total of $80 million. All that on a $5 million production budget. Paramount Pictures said that "Paranormal Activity 4" is not currently in development, but recognizes that there is still plenty of interest in the franchise.

Meanwhile, Paul WS Anderson's $90 million "The Three Musketeers" bombed at domestic theaters, grossing only $8.8 million, landing in fourth place. Overseas, the film performed much better, earning above $50 million. Milla Jovovich, recently took to Twitter, where she complained that Summit Entertainment didn't promote the movie well. "The Three Musketeers" was not screened for critics and has a 27% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes.

The other wide release of the weekend was Rowan Atkinson's "Johnny English Reborn," which grossed only $3.8 million domestically. The $45 million sequel performed better overseas, already earning $105 million since its opening in September. It has a 38% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes.

Myself, I'm a sucker for the paranormal/supernatural horror sub-genre. I love films like The Shining (1980), The Changeling (1980) and Ghost Story (1981).

Paranormal 1 was entertaining.
Paranormal 2 not as much entertaining.
Paranormal 3 not seen yet.

I will say this about the franchise:

1. No f*cking 3D
2. [R] rated while the studio could have opted for an easy PG-13 route
3. $54 mil. opening with it's 3rd installment... amazing.

The Tall Man is right, PA3 could have been pg-13 and it will mean nothing to good editors. I just saw it today, I liked the first two and imo that this one is the best. Everybody had a great time, they screamed and jumped and it was so cool.

See, now I consider the second paranomal activity film to be superior to the first.

It was better made, more realistic, drew out scenes and characters, and felt a lot more grounded than the previous one - and a lot scarier (see, I actually had a sense of concern for the characters in that film - whereas in the other two I cried for their blood).

But for some reason the writers of these films always screw up the last scene...
