"Captain America 2" Outline Turned In, Writers Discuss Story SettingPosted: October 21st, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
IFC spoke to "Captain America" writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFreely about the sequel, the outline for which they already turned into the studio. The script will be using Joss Whedon's "The Avengers" as a guideline.
"We needed to read Joss's 'Avengers' before we could go on and do 'Captain America 2,'" said McFreely. "We needed to see if he did anything different, character-wise, and he hadn't, he's an excellent writer. But we also needed to see what he had done in terms of Steve poking around the modern day and dealing with it."
The two writers believe that the sequel can be set in various time periods, including the World War II years, but it will likely be set in the present. "So much of Captain America's adventures occur in the present day, so there are a lot of things I'd like to touch on," said Markus.
McFreely added: "If he had another adventure entirely set in World War II, the stakes are kind of lessened, because you know he survives and you know what happens to Bucky and you know the Howling Commandos survive long enough to have a toast in a bar. You know Cap wins, and you know that whoever he was fighting didn't destroy the world, because you've already seen things that happen after it. But then again, did that bother anyone with the second Indiana Jones movie?"

The Justin Lin effect is in full force here folks. What we have here are two chaps who somehow managed to write a decent movie and now are kissing their own backsides while giving other movies a slam. Well done lads, I hope nothing but the worst for the sequel.
btw way to give away the fact that weak sh*t Whedon has nothing for Cap to do in terms of character development (probably the rest as well done I suppose)

Just keep CA in the present day ( with a few of WWII flashbacks). As for Commando's movie, I'll pass on that because there are too many other Marvel movies I would rather see first.

Wait a minute, are they already dismissing the fact that at the end of the first movie, Captain America woke up in present time NY? Continuation-wise, people are going to be confused.

@jikae
It's pretty simple they can just have cap have a side adventure and villian taking place during the same time as the first movie. Almost all the action was in montages anything could of happened but everyone would prefer modern day setting.

it could work. they already addressed what the problems could be so it is not like the writers think the watchers are idiots. like other movies....
plus get the prolems out now, in the public, have the bloggers and what not, bitch and moan for a few months, get it out of their systems, and end up watching and probably liking the story.

in flashbacks too.
fb could have scenes showing cap talking to *past whoever* about *Bad thing here* on the battlefeild. this takes a back seat to the red skull. capt MAYBE has a breif encounter or like pic or blue prints
future. *bad thing arrives* cap fights. second plot. *bad Govt/Comp* finds the cosmic cube and inadvertently bring the r. skull back.
now cap has to fight *bad thing* and skull
needs Avengers to fight off mabe av seq
wow that is the most nerd i have been in awhile sorry

Captain America: The First Avenger is one of the best comic book movies of the year along with Thor and X-Men: First Class.
I hope Captain America 2 works out well.
It would be hard for it to work out in modern day but still let's hope this sequel turns out to better than the first one.

I don't know about that, most of Ed Brubaker's Captain American run takes place in Present Time and it was pretty epic. There is a lot to draw on with Captain America.
