General Motors to Remake "Cannonball Run" to Showcase New Cars

General Motors to Remake "Cannonball Run" to Showcase New CarsSubmit Comment
The world of product placement just got bigger. General Motors is in talks with 20th Century Fox to remake the 1981 comedy "Cannonball Run" in order to fill the screen with GM cars. But unlike what the automaker did with "Transformers," GM is looking to actually fund "Cannonball Run."

Producer Al Ruddy (The Godfather, Million Dollar Baby) is producing the new film. Shawn Levy (Real Steel) has expressed interest in directing, but only if his "Night at the Museum" star Ben Stiller plays the lead. "Sherlock Holmes" director Guy Ritchie is also interested and is envisioning his "Snatch" star Brad Pitt in the lead. At this point, the team of Ritchie and Pitt have the advantage since they are both represented by CAA talent agency, which also represents GM.

Along with the news that GM is getting into the movie business, came the criticism that the company is gambling with money given to it by US tax payers during the bailout. In other words, US and Canadian citizens will pay money to see a movie that they paid for.

According to capitalism GM should have been left alone to die out, they run a crap business and they deserve to go broke

Im glad to know my tax money is funding this

Im glad to know I will still have to fund this to see it

But dont worry you will be glad to know I wont fund this garbage by going to see it (unless Scarlett Johanson or Penelope Cruz/or Cruz's Sister is set to star in it)

just wanted to be clear

GM already fully paid back the tax money it received, unlike the banks. Taxpayers can be outraged if or when Gm needs to be bailed out again for investing in a Connonball Run remake.

American cars are sh*t ! Especially the GM ! German cars are proven to be the best in the world since they invented them. Audi, Porsche or even a Merck ! Eventually, the best Ferrari of all time the 250 GTO or the 458 Italia comes to mind. But a GM car ? f*ck you & get over it. The Germans invented the f*cking car. And that is why they are the best. Even the best Aston Martin is engineered by the Germans. (Which could explain their lack of sense of humour because they are so disciplined in what they achieve).

Even better: guess who designed and was in charge of the Apollo program ? Werhner Von Braun !
