"Assassin's Creed" Video Game to Become a Movie

Posted: October 20th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
"AssassinSubmit Comment
Sony Pictures has won a bidding war to acquire film rights to Ubisoft's popular "Assassin's Creed" video game series, which will release a fourth installment, "Assassin's Creed: Revelations," in stores on November 15th.

The property revolves around a bartender named Desmond Miles who is captured by a secret corporation called Abstergo Industries and forced to go back in time to various historical periods like the Renaissance and Crusades to relieve the memories of his ancestors -- all assassins -- in order to recover ancient artifacts.

More than 30 million copies of the games have been sold worldwide. And because of the games' cinematic sequences, Sony is looking to turn the property into big-budget adventure film.

Ubisoft's "Prince of Persia" has already been adapted for the big screen, earning a disappointing $91 million domestically. The company also wants "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell" and "Ton Clancy's Ghost Recon" turned into movies.

This could turn to be awesome if well done.. But I can't expect anything good from those Hollywood c*nts producers.

I wonder if the assassin will climb the walls of whatever city for 4/5 of the movie

@Chewy - yeah, I don't think that film is the proper medium for a story like this

@FBO
Let's assume that because there is so much information and story that the infamous repetative storytelling of the first one will be avoided anyway. Got to hope. I have a lot of hope for this as a film!

this franchise needs the vision of the great Uwe Boll,Paul W Anderson. because they makes masterpieces when it comes to adapting video games into feature lenght films.

As long as they get a very serious director who will stick to the original material eactly like it is on the video game, it hink it will awesome. Otherwise, this movie will suck big time. Also, It's funny how studios often time hire sh*t directors, they get a sh*t movie, then wonder why it's sh*t.

I'm currently playing assassins creed brotherhood and curiously just thought about what if they made a movie about Assassins creed. the game is intriguing and captivating and I believe the movie should feel like the bourne movies. make the killing and hand to hand combat awesome and try to follow story of game and should be a good movie--also make sure they get the historic setting accurate which is a big part of the game.

If done right, and in the right hands, this could be absolutely epic.

But it won't make it into the right hands.

I think Zack Snyder should make all video game adaptation as long as he doesn't write the scripts ever!
You Watch Sucker PUNCH? It was like watching the coolest(visually) but sh*ttiest video game ever.

Hmmm...too complicated. Will not work. You need to find perfect balance in storytelling between Desmond and Altair. Also you need to find believable locations (hard these days). Not to mention it needs to have R rating, but studio will probably pursue PG13

In order for this to NOT fall into the videogame movie curse, they need to keep everything original! By that I mean, choose a writer who can be ORIGINAL, and team him up with the writers at ubisoft. they really cant depend on special effects like that abortion Prince of Persia. it needs alot of action, WITH alot story structure as well. Actors who can be seen as authentic, this project is alot to take on! The story itself is huge, but fans are also going to want to see Altair bring the pain train. I agree with John1017, they need to keep a realistic aspect in order for this to be a success, and NOT by what they think will get them the most money.

Typographical error. ^

Finally a video game movie adaption, instead of a remake of a 80's classic.

Assassin's Creed is a great game, hopefully the studio gets this idea right just like the first Mortal Kombat movie

I don't see why it is so hard to make a movie based on a game. The story is already there all you have to do is copy in live action and put on the big screen. Part of the reason why you would want to make a movie based on a game, (one would think) is to show the non gamers the compelling story that they no nothing about but Hollywood just f*cks it up every time. WHY?!! AND HOW?!!
