New Superheroes Will Assemble for "The Avengers" SequelSubmit Comment
IGN caught up with Marvel head Kevin Feige to talk about the second phase of the company's superhero strategy, which will begin after "The Avengers" hits theaters next year. "Thor 2" and "Iron Man 3" are part of that phase and so are films focusing on new characters, that will eventually be the stars of "The Avengers" sequel.

"Absolutely. That's the fun of it. Introducing new characters," he said, adding that "Iron Man 3" will begin setting up "The Avengers 2." "[It will be] what we refer to as Phase Two of this Avengers Assemble talk, which will lead to 'The Avengers 2.'"

Some of the new superheroes discussed have been Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, The Wasp and Black Panther. "The Avengers" is tentatively set to appear in theaters in 2015.

2015? My, oh my. I was pretty sure it was 2012. Well, 4 years of post-production will probably lead to the most awesome CGI ever in history of man.

Chris Farley would have made a great HULK by the look in his audition tape:

probably the worst idea. today.
The first avengers movie will be good because we enjoy these characters and it'll be a nice, once-off. Don't f*ck that up for more money.

Kudos to Freddy Vs Jason for not making a sequel

Must be great getting paid that kind of coin and getting to say those lines.

So they're going to 'The Expendables formula' --- loading this movie full of characters hoping fans of each individual character will flock to this. Although, this ISN'T The Expendables, and I think it would be better if they just stuck with their core of original characters, and maybe, MAYBE have a cameo in the movie. Spidey swinging from building to building in the background, city blocks away would be GREAT cross-marketing.

@Ranger. Actually, Spiderman and Wolverine are Avengers since 2005 (New Avengers). Hell, they even recruited Daredevil recently. (Of course they can't do that in the movies because of SONY and FOX)

Marvel overload...looks like they are turning in to Fox.
Ranger writes:

@Matiax - thx. for the update. I guess it was just a matter of time (that The Avengers recruited more help).

And I know the ownership of some characters (and even split-ownership of the likes of Superman) hold back my regularly repeated postings of cross-marketing these characters (I still think Superman should have made a brief appearance (from behind) in Green Lantern as a guest speaker on OA.

DC has a worst management of their characters. Forget about a Justice League Movie at least until 2018.

I mean The Avengers turns out to be better than the previous movies and breaks records then there will be The Avengers 2.

I think Marvel should stay with the superheroes before and add maybe 4 more new superheroes like Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther and The Wasp.

It would be great if Wolverine and Spiderman join the team, that would had be awesome but during to rights for Fox, Wolverine and Spiderman can't appear in The Avengers or any Marvel movie.

Well that's just great.
