"John Carter" Must Gross $700 Million to Get a Sequel

"John Carter" Must Gross $700 Million to Get a SequelSubmit Comment
When the trailer for "John Carter," formerly known as "John Carter of Mars," appeared online, it didn't create much enthusiasm for the movie. That may make it difficult for the franchise to become a trilogy, as was originally planned.

Now comes word that Disney definitely would like to move forward with a sequel, but only if the first film is successful, really successful. "'John Carter' will have to earn about $700 million to justify a sequel," said an insider. That would mean that the film would have end up being among 50 highest-grossing movies of all time, above "Wall-E" and "Iron Man." And it would have to do almost twice as much business as another recent Disney sci-fi film, "Tron Legacy," which grossed $400 million and is considered a hit.

"John Carter" is directed by Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, Wall-E) and stars Taylor Kitsch as the title character. It is set to hit theaters on March 9th, 2012.

Basically, Disney knows the entire project is awful.

Why don't they allow us to watch it in our home for $59?

Has to gross 700 million??? WTF? Can you digitally delete Taylor Kitsch and replace him with anyone else? Because all he does is give me flashbacks to that Wolverine movie, where I think the best scene was Hugh Jackman slicing the sh*t out of a ladder like a goddamn Looney Tune.

Yeah, that's not going to happen. With any luck it'll break 100 in domestic.
SeWerin writes:

It needs to earn 700 mil? Why? Because it looks as the movie is made for 7000$

Maybe in Mars it can beat the crap out of Avatar, but here on earth Disney, that here is reality, not in your dreams are gonna see that much money!!!!!

@B_D - looks better than I would have guessed. And ferrets (like Nazi's) will add a star to any movie's rating (you know that!). I had forgotten (being out of comics for decades and this title was never a fav. of mine) that ERB originally conceived the character. That's the best news yet!

Sorry... 'Edgar Rice Burroughs' for those missing my reference.
Atemisk writes:

Yeah this isn't happening... It has a absolutely awful trailer that's all over the place, and I doubt that this movie will just be so awesome that sheer word of mouth carries it to blockbuster status.

In other news though, Disney continues to prove it is in possession of best drugs that can be found anywhere. These mofos take a single hit and are just higher than the sun for weeks on end.
