Watch "Tower Heist" at Home for $59.99

Watch "Tower Heist" at Home for $59.99Submit Comment
Universal Pictures has announced that it will make Brett Ratner's "Tower Heist," which stars Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy, available through video-on-demand just three weeks after the film hits theaters on November 4th.

Instead of waiting several months to watch the comedy at home, customers will be able to do this much sooner. Unfortunately it will cost them $59.99. The release strategy is part of Universal's test to see if this will cause a significant drop in box-office receipts. The move has already angered theater owners, filmmakers, and movie-goers.

One of the filmmakers upset at the movie is Ratner himself, who protested the move when it was proposed back in April. "Brett was made aware of Universal's PVOD experiment with 'Tower Heist' yesterday," said Ratner's spokesperson. "Brett did not participate in the planning of this test."

Whats wrong with this PVOD experiment? Will Brett Ratner lose money over, even sleep over this? Universal or any other Hollywood movie companies should lower down cost so that people can watch a movie. I lament that this days, there is little quality movies that we are seeing.

Wow...if someone pays 60 bucks to see this, a movie with Eddie Murphy I might add, they would have to be bat sh*t crazy. For that price it should be before the movie hits theaters, not 3 weeks after. This is really ridiculous. Unless of course you are 500+ pounds, unable to get off the couch and insist on seeing an unanticipated movie before dvd, then I get it. HDNETMOVIES channel shows movies before they hit theater for free. The channel comes with basic directv too. Mostly independent, but last week you could see Tucker and Dale vs. Evil before theaters and Blackthorne tonight as a matter of fact.

If more movies do VOD then that's just great news for all of us movie pirates out there!

Wow, this really shows that not even the studio believes in this film. If they had, they wouldn't have risked the box-office gross. This will bomb so hard. All of Eddie Murphy's nine lives will be used after this.

You think anyone with half a brain would pay $60 to watch a Brett Rattner movie?

Nice it''ll be $60 to watch it 3 weeks after it comes out.
It'll be free to watch it online the day after it comes out :D

Not gonna watch it in the cinema, so why would I want to see it at home?

Unfortunately it will cost them $59.99.

Fortunately Tara Reid is also on the market for $29.95.

Also Tom Jane still enjoys a good sandwich.

see, what they are doing here is hitting a small market segment of the rather wealthy who are willing to pay $60 (cause 60 dollars is nothing to them) to be able to host a party or movie session in their own little home cinema. They wont get high volume of sales but they dont need it at that price.

i think i recall a while ago they were going to offer private releases reals of movies for the super super wealthy on the premier date for thousands of dollars.
jikae writes:

I'm not paying $10 for this movie let alone $60 to watch it at home. At least pick a good movie to experiment with.

i can think of a lot more things i'd rather spend 60 bucks on.
