Nicolas Cage Almost Played Scarecrow in "Batman and Robin" Follow-Up

Nicolas Cage Almost Played Scarecrow in "Batman and Robin" Follow-UpSubmit Comment
The Playlist caught up with director Joel Schumacher, who revealed that Warner Bros was very excited about "Batman and Robin" while it was being filmed, and even started work on a follow-up, the Mark Protosevich-written "Batman Triumphant," which was going to revolve around Batman and Robin battling the Scarecrow. In the story, the villain would have used "fear toxins" forcing Batman to see his former enemies, including the Joker, the role Jack Nicholson was planning to reprise. But who was going to play Scarecrow?

"I was supposed to do a fifth one," said Schumacher. "I was talking to Nic Cage about playing the Scarecrow. I had begged the studio for [the Frank Miller comic] 'The Dark Knight [Returns],' but they wanted a family friendly, toyetic thing."

Eventually "Batman and Robin" hit theaters and Warner Bros immediately ended their relationship with Schumacher and killed "Batman Triumphant." The director added that he was convinced that he made "the wrong choice" to helm "Batman and Robin," but "I did my job. It was more family friendly and it sold a lot of toys, and it supported the Warner Bros stores. But I did disappoint a lot of fans."

Schumacher later teamed with Cage for "8MM," which Schumacher figured "would be the furthest thing from a summer movie."

Summer movies..... Man you are not even close to Nolan, Cameron, Spielberg, Bay or even Lucas..... The last thing I liked from you was The Lost Boys and Flatliners and that´s all..... After all, what other great thing you have made it¿?

'Sucked harder than Thomas Jane on a Saturday night in LA' --- were I drinking when I read that... surely it would have shot out of my nose!

Now that would have been Oscar worthy.

I read the script for Batman Triumphant, it was okay.

It would had been awesome if Jack Nicolson reprise his role as The Joker in a cameo.

Still I am happy that this movie didn't happen because if it did happen then there wouldn't be Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

I hope The Dark Knight Rises doesn't disappoint and will be a great end to the Nolan Batman movie trligy.
