"The Dolphin Tale" Tops All New Releases at Box Office

"The Dolphin Tale" Tops All New Releases at Box OfficeSubmit Comment
The family film "Dolphin Tale" took first place at the domestic box office, despite opening in third place last week. The movie grossed another $14.2 million for a domestic total of $37.5 million. It cost $37 million to make.

Disney's re-release of "The Lion King" fell to third place after holding the box office crown for two weeks. The film now grossed an additional $80 million domestically during the re-release, resulting in a $408.2 million total. That makes "The Lion King" a top 10 highest-grossing domestic film of all-time, beating "Spider Man" ($403.7 million).

The weekend's new releases all struggled to compete. "50/50," starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen took fourth place with $8.9 million. The comedy has a 92% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes and is already mentioned as an Oscar contender. "While it's true that we came in a little less than expected, I think we will end up in a good place," said Summit Entertainment.

"Courageous," which is a faith-based movie, grossed an impressive $8.8 million from only 1,161 theaters, placing it in 5th place. These type of faith-based movies cost very little to make and usually go on to become hits. "Courageous" is no exception, despite having a 42% fresh rating.

"Dream House" thriller, starring Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz, took sixth place with $8.2 million. The film cost an estimated $55 million to make, which means it will likely not earn back its budget. Especially since the movie has an 8% fresh rating.

The last wide release is the comedy "What's Your Number?," starring Anna Faris and Chris Evans, which grossed only $5.6 million, good enough for seventh place. The R-rated comedy has a 23% fresh rating.

On the specialty side, Michael Shannon's "Take Shelter" grossed $56,200 from only 3 theaters. It has a whopping 93% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes and will begin expanding next week.

These kind of films always see a bump when an R rated flick is released that kids want to see but can't get into. The same happened with Smurfs, How to Train Your Dragon, etc. I know because when I was 13 or so I'd buy rated G tickets then get into the good sh*t. They should be thanking 50/50 for this one.

Another Flop for Daniel Craig.take out the james bond movies and this guy is the biggest box office poison in the last 5 years.

Craig is box office failure just like Colin Farrell AKA FAILURE theres no more movies coming out this year.I'm not even spending money on Mission Impossible or Sherlock Holmes.

Hope The Immortals with Henry Cavill bombs just like Conan cause it looks like sh*t as well and Jack and Jill will make box office records.

Well it seems that the family films are ruling back in theaters..... We have to wait for the outcome with films like The Thing and Paranormal Activity 3 soon to be realize, since we are entering in Halloween season!!!!!

An R-Rated movie with Anna Faris? Does she show any smut? I might have to see it.

The Lion King falls. Haha classic film though. Dolphin Tale, despite having no interest, looks like a cute little movie for the younglings. Plus it has Morgan Freeman, so atleast the children are being exposed to actual talent. 50/50 on the other hand was one of the best films I've seen all year, and I even liked Seth Rogen who's really been dishing out crap lately. Hopefully word of the mouth helps the film get more recognition.

People are missing out by not seeing drive. It's going to end up being a cult classic on dvd.

Yeah, Dream House should've gone straight to Laserdisk and VHS .... Hell, Beta ... it was that f*cking bad. A piece of dogsh*t wrapped in sandpaper and slid on Laurence Harvey's c*ck.
