How Sean Penn Helped in Release of Two American Hostages in Iran

How Sean Penn Helped in Release of Two American Hostages in IranSubmit Comment
Two Americans, Josh Fattell and Shane Bauer, were released last week after being held in Iranian custody for two years on charges of espionage. During a recent press conference, the duo thanked many people, including actor Sean Penn. But what role did Penn have in securing their freedom?

According to Reuters, the actor flew to Venezuela to ask his friend, President Hugo Chavez, to intervene. Chaves decided to help and brought up the case with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

"The American 'intellectual' who took up the case with [Chavez] was Sean Penn," a source told the paper. "Penn was very committed to the case. He flew to Caracas several months ago to raise it with Chavez and he kept on it."

Penn's representatives confirmed that the actor was involved with the release, but Penn is refusing to put out an official statement.

Oh what the f*ck ever. Sean had a talk with a oil rich country president, then that rich ass Prez talked to the other oil rich Prez and negotiated the release of the Americans and it was all because of Penn? f*ck Off Sean Penn who media hungry humanitarian wannabe.

Hm, so these 2 guys were hicking and got lost in Iran ? Of all the places in America, in Europe or even in South America, you end up choosing to go near the Iranian border ! Why am I not buying this "hicker" story ?

@boogeil

The new "Three Stooges"?

It's alright guys, it is just Gary Johnson "valmorfisized" to look like Sean Penn.

"Team America" did all the hard work.

JohnZee writes:

Well if you notice Sean Penn isn't officially stating that he did ANYTHING. The only people that have said anything were the hostages themselves.

Give the man credit, most other celebrities would have instantly pressured those hostages into a photo-op and had their press agent pushing news stories all around the country taking as much possible credit as they could.

But he isn't doing that, in fact it seems that with the effort that Reuters is saying that he took with this case he is being surprisingly hesitant to take any such credit.

An actor being hesitant to get free publicity, and yet simply because some people don't agree with his political views he's a douchebag.

Well he's in good company because most Americans belittle 99% of the things that Jimmy Carter has done after his presidency.

Charity, selfishness, and good will to other human beings around the world and from America just doesn't mean a whole lot if you just so happen to be on the wrong side of the political coin.

If only Carter would have been willing to sell antiaircraft missiles and fully loaded F-16's to Iraq, then the American people would have loved the sh*t out of him and called him a great American hero decades after his eventual death.

But sadly he frowned upon the very concept of such obvious treason.

most of the movies you mentioned are from the 80's and early 90's...he was young and talented then but then he decided to become a director and share with us his boring personality which reflects in his god awful boring movies.

@JohnZ... good post. I don't have a problem with Penn's political views... freedom of speech and all, and I think he's one of the top actor's in the world.
