Lars Von Trier's Beautiful "Melancholia" Trailer

While Lars Von Trier (Dogville) hurt his "Melancholia" film a bit with Nazi comments, critics believe that it is a great piece of art and a very enjoyable and emotional movie, despite the fact that it's also incredibly depressing. Today we have a domestic trailer for it. Watch that trailer below.

Plot: Justine (Kirsten Dunst), a woman suffering from an extreme case of clinical depression, celebrates her marriage with a extravagant reception that is marred bickering family members, leaving the bride feeling withdrawn. The following morning Justine notices a planet, with no orbit of its own, hurtling toward Earth. And as the newlyweds are helpless against Justine's depression ruining their marriage, the entire wedding party can do nothing but freak out and watch as the world comes to an end.

"Melancholia" will next appear at the Toronto International Film Festival, the NY Film Festival and Fantastic Fest. It is set to hit US theaters on November 11th, in limited release. The movie will also be available on VOD on October 7th.

@band

There is one good thing Hitler did....he invented the "Volks Wagen Beetle" eventhoygh it didn't actually get made until after the war, the whole design was his.

Looks good but taking the appreciation in the POV as painting, nothing more..... Once again, I have to said it. Liebestod is a powerful music score than can´t be used in any movie just because you wanted. Here is so, so, but the way I see it. It have to be in a movie with a more powerful drama..... something like Romeo and Juliet, I don´t know maybe I´m melancolic like this movie.....

I'm looking quite forward to the visuals of this film. I've read spoilers on the end, and I'm quite intrigued on how it'll look.

Despite Von Trier's comments, I presume you have to separate the man from the art.

@band

and what does that have to do with it?

I remarked on the "beetle " as it was a cheap car to make at the time, which is what Hitler wanted for the German people.

And it is strange how the car has become popular and vitually nobody knows that Hilter conceived of the idea.

Lars von tries has always been a bit unhinged so do not let that make you miss a great film bandolero

Lars Von Trier is certainly NOT a nazi or a nazi sympathizer of any kind. You have to put back his comments into his initial context.

How he expressed himself during the Cannes Film Festival was totally wrong but was based on a fact that his mother has hidden from him all his life: originally, his mother said that his father was jewish and years later when she was dying in the hospital she finally confessed to Lars that his real father was in fact a German !

Obviously, he completely f*cked up in that interview in Cannes as he was obviously nervous and confused mixing his private life trying badly to make a humour out of it.

There is no excuse for what he said but this is the real story !
