Martin Scorsese to Direct Leonardo DiCaprio in "The Gambler" RemakeSubmit Comment
Paramount Pictures is developing "The Gambler," a remake of the 1974 James Caan addiction drama that has "The Departed" team of Martin Scorsese and William Monahan (The Departed) on board to direct and write.

The story revolves around a New York English professor who inspires his students but suffers from a secret gambling addiction. The affliction causes him to extort money from his mother and convince one of his students to shave points in a basketball game.

"The Departed" star Leonardo DiCaprio is in talks to star, but no deal is currently in place.

Martin Scorsese is no longer the director I used to admire. The guy behind masterpieces Taxi Driver, Goodfellas and Raging Bull has chosen to stay in his comfort zone and direct remakes (sh*t remakes by the way). Cape Fear and The Departed were sh*t (for those who think The Departed was good, watch the original Hong Kong version Infernal Affairs - you just need to learn how to read subtitles. It's far better). And now, another sh*tty remake

Martin Scorsese is becoming a Hollywood civil servant, meaning he couldn't be arsed to use his well known talent. Another waste.

@PaulX7:

Agreed with you. Even The Departed is a remake, I still liked but a original movie canīt never be surpassed by a remake.....

Have to disagree with the dislike for Marty.

Yeah his films in the past 20 years or so aren't as great as the films he made in his first 20 years of film making.

With likes of Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, King of , Color of Money and one of my all time favorite movies Goodfellas.

He hasn't got that raw edge he had early on in his career why would he's nearly 70 now.

I would still rather see a Scorsese film over most film makers out there today, yeah the Departed was a remake so what it was a bloody good movie same as Cape Fear and i also like the original movie too.

"that has "The Departed" team of Martin Scorsese and William Monahan (The Departed)"

So let me get this straight: They both worked on Departed?

WHEW!! i thought it was the Kenny Rogers' Gambler,habout a remake of Jon Voits' first movie? cant remember the name but he wears a silver suit and tie with shades and fights crime after bein made super by some scientist. directors are like rappers theyr better when theyr poor and hungry. when they start wallowing in their success&p*ssy and their art suffers

The departed is a far superior film to Infernal affairs. Infernal affairs structure is all over the place. Scorcese is still a better director than many about now. Thats what I think.
