List of Most Famous Director on Director InsultsSubmit Comment
One would think that directors would respect the work of other filmmakers, or at least keep their negative opinions to themselves. But that's not the case, and today we have some of the most famous director-on-director insults, with Quentin Tarantino, Steven Spielberg and Kevin Smith getting lots of hate.

* Ingmar Berman on Orson Welles: "For me he's just a hoax. It's empty. It's not interesting. It's dead. 'Citizen Kane,' which I have a copy of - is all the critics' darling, always at the top of every poll taken, but I think it's a total bore. Above all, the performances are worthless. The amount of respect that movie's got is absolutely unbelievable."

* Harmony Korine on Quentin Tarantino: "Quentin Tarantino seems to be too concerned with other films. I mean, about appropriating other movies, like in a blender. I think it's, like, really funny at the time I'm seeing it, but then, I don't know, there's a void there. Some of the references are flat, just pop culture."

* Nick Broomfield on Quentin Tarantino: "It's like watching a schoolboy's fantasy of violence and sex, which normally Quentin Tarantino would be wanking alone to in his bedroom while this mother is making his baked beans downstairs. Only this time he's got Harvey Weinstein behind him and itís on at a million screens."

* Spike Lee on Quentin Tarantino: "I'm not against the [N-word], and I use it, but not excessively. And some people speak that way. But Quentin is infatuated with that word. What does he want to be made ó an honorary black man?"

* Spike Lee on Tyler Perry: "We got a black president, and we going back to Mantan Moreland and Sleep 'n' Eat?"

* Tyler Perry on Spike Lee: "Spike can go straight to hell! I am sick of him talking about me, I am sick of him saying, 'This is a coon; this is a buffoon.'"

* Clint Eastwood on Spike Lee (Responding to Lee accusing Eastwood of not including black people in "Flags of Our Fathers"): "A guy like him should shut his face."

* Jacques Rivette on James Cameron (and Steven Spielberg): "Cameron isn't evil, he's not an a**hole like Spielberg. He wants to be the new De Mille. Unfortunately, he can't direct his way out of a paper bag."

* Jean-Luc Godard on Steven Spielberg: "I don't know him personally. I don't think his films are very good."

* Alex Cox on Steven Spielberg: "Spielberg isn't a filmmaker, he's a confectioner."

* Tim Burton on Kevin Smith (after Smith jokingly accused Burton of stealing the ending of "Planet of the Apes" from a Smith comic book): "Anyone who knows me knows I would never read a comic book. And I would especially never read anything created by Kevin Smith."

* Kevin Smith on Tim Burton (in response to "I would never read a comic book"): "Which, to me, explains f*cking 'Batman.'"

* Kevin Smith on Paul Thomas Anderson (specifically, "Magnolia"): "I'll never watch it again, but I will keep it. I'll keep it right on my desk, as a constant reminder that a bloated sense of self-importance is the most unattractive quality in a person or their work."

* David Gordon Green on Kevin Smith: "He kind of created a Special Olympics for film. They just kind of lowered the standard. I'm sure their parents are proud; it's just nothing I care to buy a ticket for."

* Vincent Gallo on Spike Jonze: "He's the biggest fraud out there. If you bring him to a party he's the least interesting person at the party, he's the person who doesn't know anything. He's the person who doesn't say anything funny, interesting, intelligent... He's a pig piece of shit."

* Vincent Gallo on Martin Scorsese: "I wouldn't work for Martin Scorsese for $10 million. He hasn't made a good film in 25 years. I would never work with an egomaniac has-been."

* Vincent Gallo on Sofia (and Francis Ford) Coppola: "Sofia Coppola likes any guy who has what she wants. If she wants to be a photographer she'll f*ck a photographer. If she wants to be a filmmaker, she'll f*ck a filmmaker. She's a parasite just like her fat, pig father was."

* David Cronenberg on M. Night Shyamalan: "I HATE that guy! Next question."

* Uwe Boll on Michael Bay: "I'm not a f*cking retard like Michael Bay."

These directors should fix their own movies up before trashing about the director's movies.

I think Boll and Michael Bay should team up where they make a movie about knights going up against a army of robots send back in time in Middle Ages to destroy mankind with less weapons and the knights mist team up with a pair of dragons to save their land and the world.

I think that would be a great idea for a awful CGI special effects action movie with a bad script.

* Jean-Luc Godard on Steven Spielberg: "I don't know him personally. I don't think his films are very good." Haha say it like it is Godard, although I doubt this is a personal attack, Godard was one of the pioneers of the french new wave which was intentionally going against the rules of Hollywood. To say Spielbergs films were good would be to go against his own films in a sense.

* Kevin Smith on Paul Thomas Anderson (specifically, "Magnolia"): "I'll never watch it again, but I will keep it. I'll keep it right on my desk, as a constant reminder that a bloated sense of self-importance is the most unattractive quality in a person or their work."

f*cking hypocrite of the century, Smiths films all added together don't match up to the power of Magnolia. Bloated and self-importance are two of the main words I'd use to describe Smith the fat f*ck!

Vincent Gallo on Spike Jonze: "He's the biggest fraud out there. If you bring him to a party he's the least interesting person at the party, he's the person who doesn't know anything. He's the person who doesn't say anything funny, interesting, intelligent... He's a pig piece of sh*t."

And when has having a personality ever been relevant to the quality of his films? It's that sense of isolation and escape that I find the most realistic in Jonzes films. Why would he want to talk to a room full of arrogant rude c*nts like Vincent Gallo.

velocityknown writes:

Wow, Vincent Gallo is a f*cking idiot. Insulting Spike Jonze and Martin Scorsese and the guy has never made a minor contribution to filmmaking.

"A guy like him should shut his face."

Clint is the Boss. Forever was and forever will be. Short, raw and staright to the point.

"Vincent Gallo on Martin Scorsese: "I wouldn't work for Martin Scorsese for $10 million."

Which would never happen anyway. Gallo made Chloe Sevigni suck his d*ck on camera, so I have a certain amount of respect towards him. But his best role I remember is Johnny the deadman in Ferrara's "The Funeral". Also he made such impossible bullsh*t as Moscow Zero.

About Gallo's Coppola comment: wasn't his last film role in Coppola's "Tetro"?

"If she wants to be a photographer she'll f*ck a photographer. If she wants to be a filmmaker, she'll f*ck a filmmaker."

I'm open for propositions.

I don't get why Spike Lee has such a problem with Tarantino using the n-word in his movies. Off the top of my head the only time I can think of a white character saying it to a black character is the "dead n*gger storage" scene from Pulp Fiction. I get that it's a brutal word to use but when a writer has only criminals and low-lifes use it, isn't more about who these people are and not a racism thing?
PaulX7 writes:

Vincent Gallo recently made a film with Francis Ford Coppola.hes just pissed cause nobody knows who the f*ck he is and hes now in his late 40s or early 50s.he'll always be that starving indie director/actor

Tarantino is always ripping off foreign movies or copying extremely old movies.he has never made anything original. The Weinsteins do Have his back so hes got more of a chance of more material being made.

Andrzej Bartkowiak responsible for Doom,Cradle to the Grave,Street Fighter Legend of Chun Li,Rome must Die,Exit wounds being his best film

Renny Harlin was once a good director but went to sh*t for films like Covenant,Deep Blue Sea,Mindhunters,Driven,Covenant,Cleaner 12 Rounds,Cuthroat Island OUCH all of those films are f*cking atrocious.

Lee Tamahori responsible for NEXT,Die another Day,XXX State of the Union.Maybe he'll have some redemption with Devil's Double

Rob Cohen who's only good movie was Dragon the Douche Lee Story and made turds like Stealth,Fast and the furious, xxx,Daylight,Skulls,Mummy Tomb of the Emperor

The reason Clint hasn't been crucified (and we all know this) is whether he's a racist or not (can't see it... he hires the same actors for most of his movies, whiteys and brothas), he's never come out publicly. His characters certainly are... right up there with Archie Bunker (although... Archie was just ignorant... Clint's characters know better). Unlike Mel Gibson that went public. WHY don't most of us have a problem with Clint's characters racism... because he has the balls to put that on the big screen. He doesn't give a rat's ass about being PC, and he knows everyone has at least one racist bone in their body (I have my racist bone in others when I bang ethnic chicks!). Good on Clint for being honest. With his fans and with his characters.

That's why Clint will always be The Man.

25 years, you say, Mr. Gallo?

Prior to filming "Casino" James "Badass" Woods heard that Scorsese was interested in working with him.

What did James "I worked with Stone, Leone, Attenborough" Woods do? He didn't call his agent or thought "f*ck this has-been, I'm hot sh*t, oscar-nominated actor".

He called Scoresese and left the message "Any time, any place, any part, ane fee".

I listened to the recording where Vincent Gallo makes all three quotes. Really sounds like he is kidding around on the recording. Kinda of doing a schtick. The quotes were done before he worked with Coppola which also signals it was a joking around thing since he and Coppola are friendly towards one and other. I do not think Gallo knew he was being recorded and that whom ever recorded him would release the recording. The japanese guy who put it on his sight seems like a real jerk. Seems very un japanese to behave like that. I met Gallo once and he had high praise for both Coppola's and in person he is an extremely sweet and likable guy. His humor does not translate well. In any case I consider him one of the best filmmakers in the last 20 years and also a one of a kind person. I think he gets under a lot of guys skin. Guys who because of life circ*mstances have a lot of free time to follow him on the net and bash him. Godard has been quoted saying Gallo is the best American filmmaker in many many years. Hertzog , Nick Broomfield and Paul Thomas Anderson have also praised Gallo as one of the greats. Vincent Gallo's website is hilarious and anyone who doesn't understand his jokes there is really dumb.
