"Harry Potter" Director to Helm Stephen King's "The Stand"

"Harry Potter" Director to Helm Stephen KingSubmit Comment
Back in February, it was announced that Warner Bros was working on bringing Stephen King's "The Stand" novel to the big screen. Now comes word that director David Yates and writer Steve Kloves, who worked together on the last three "Harry Potter" installments, are in final talks with the studio to direct and write "The Stand."

When King found out that Warners was adapting his book, he said that his choice to play the lead is Jake Gyllenhaal. He also believes that the book cannot become one film, but could work as a trilogy of films.

"The Stand" is a story of good vs evil after a virus wipes out most of the American population. While it features dozens of characters (such as the Trashcan Man and Mother Abigail) and overlapping story lines running over many years, the struggle boils down to a group of survivors fighting the Antichrist-like Randall Flagg.

Yates actually is awesome. I loved every single Potter film he did.

As always "Promises, Promises", and nothing came to fruition!!!!! Just see what happen to the Dark Tower franchise and never have a chance to only one film, only one to how it look it as all and maybe the fans can enjoy it. And with this one, what make you think this one gonna become a reality, meh!!!!!

don't know about Yates, but I know that Harry Potter is as gay as it gets. The whole franchise is a rip off of The Worst Witch.

The Stand is tough material to convert to film just like most of King's other material. I don't see this working no matter the director. My favorite king films have always come from his short stories (Silver Bullet, The Mist) . He relies too much on imagery for some films to make adequate adaptations.

Why is it remakes get approved often but rarely anything original never does?
