Frank Darabont Was Fired from "The Walking Dead"

Frank Darabont Was Fired from "The Walking Dead"Submit Comment
Frank Darabont appeared at the San Diego Comic-Con to promote his "The Walking Dead" TV series. About a week later, it was revealed that he left the show. At the time, it wasn't clear why he would abandon such a hit show, but many speculated that it had to do with the demanding schedule of the show and the lower budget that AMC proposed.

Now comes word from some of "The Walking Dead" crew members that AMC told the that Darabont was actually fired. It turns out the network waited for Comic-Con to pass in order to use the director to promote the show. "It's a crushing blow," said an insider. "Even when you have a hit, they can still destroy you."

It turns out that before leaving, he gave some final notes on the show and sent some farewell e-mails to co-workers. He has been avoiding the press and so have the cast members. AMC apparently made it very clear to them that it's not wise to talk the Darabont situation. "They're scared," confirms another insider. "They're on a zombie show. They are all really easy to kill off."

It's karmic payback for the atrocious and pointless ending he wrote into The Mist. Nah, honestly, the show had great promise and a great few first episodes but once it started to veer away from its source material (the graphic novel) just so they could keep actors on payrole even though their characters should have been killed off, the show turned to crap. So no love lost in his firing, maybe the show will return to form and be good again. It's all dependent on the writers now, which I understand they hired new ones, promising news.

"The Truth will seth you Free"..... Well apparently they make the mistake of their life, cause after this, the show doesnīt have head anymore to still standing. But of course, once again who needs a creative mind when everything is dead is this show.....

Jason Voorhees runs the show?

- We must stay quiet about this, or the boss will kill us!

- How is it going, gang?

- Good... Good, Mr. Voorhees!..

- Cool, cause if you fail - I'll kill ya.

Wow, how insulting is this? I sort of agree that the one and only real issue I was having was their veering from the source, which is 99% of the time the worse thing to do. Only time off hand I can remember leaving source a bit was great for an IP was Fight Club the movie. Even Chuck Palahniuk agreed.

Well I guess we'll see if this awesome attempt at a new genre of tv show will crash and burn giving the no sense of creativity executives an excuse for why zombie shows can't work. Meh.

It wasn't exactly a firing. He told AMC he wanted the budget doubled. They told him to take a hike. So it was kind of mutual.

I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing yet. Might not even make a difference considering Kirkman wrote the story so solidly.

sorry, should have said: Darabont threatened to leave if they didn't double the budget and give him a paygrade. He made some snide comment about doing movie-work while getting tv-pay.

f*ck AMC. Mad Men is boring now; breaking bad took a step backwards in plot last season (and so far it is dull); and the Killing is f*cking awful (red herrings do not make a clever mystery). And they have a zombie show that does huge numbers and will make more with this upcoming season.
How to save TWD (and BB): kill off the Killing and distribute the money evenly amongst the shows.
And if Hell on Wheels sucks (which I hope it doesn't suck because it looks good) cancel that show as well.
