New "Tales From the Crypt" TV Series in the WorksSubmit Comment
Deadline has learned that a new "Tales From the Crypt" series is in the works with Gil Adler, producer of the original 1989 HBO series, and "Eureka" co-creator Andrew Cosby.

The show was based on the popular and controversial 1950s EC Comics anthology and ran on TV for seven years. A detailed pitch for the new version has already been completed, with producers expected to begin shopping the project shortly.

"It will be an ongoing series that uses characters from the comic books in a more modern context," Cosby said. "It's all about continually elevating the genre, for both existing fans of the source material and mainstream audiences."

If they bring back the original Cryptkeeper I think it would be awesome.

Used to LOVE Tales from the Crypt! It was really creepy and creative its first several seasons. It also was a great platform for directors (some established and some not) to showcase their unique styles of filmmaking and storytelling. Hope this new series goes back to HBO so they don't waterdown the product. Some of those stories were every bit as violent and gruesome as a Saw movie so I'd hate to see them lose that edge.

Favorite episodes:

Carrion Death -- criminal ends up with a dead cop handcuffed to his arm while stuck in the desert.

The Ventriloquist's Dummy -- really creepy "puppet" episode

Cutting Cards -- poker at its finest :)

And All Through the House -- a Christmas story you'll never forget

The great storytelling and production from back then plus the boatloads of HBO money today would equal one amazing project. With the serious focus on series programming on HBO nowadays, I hope this stays on HBO.

SAC

Yeah that Christmas Episode was one of the best episodes, Don't know if you've seen the Tales from The Crypt movie from 1972, The Joan Collins story was exactly the same as that christmas one, It was very well done in fact the whole film is well worth checking out.
