Ron Howard Will NOT Direct "Da Vinci Code 3"

Ron Howard Will NOT Direct "Da Vinci Code 3"Submit Comment
Ever since "Angels and Demons" hit theaters in 2009, both Tom Hanks and director Ron Howard have been talking about returning for a third "Da Vinci Code" installment, based on Dan Brown's "The Lost Symbol."

Deadline has now learned that Howard is passing on directing and will stick around to just produce. "Ron told Amy Pascal and Michael Lynton that he was not going to be directing Dan Brown's novels anymore," said a Sony insider. "He just didn't want to do that thing over and over, the same character and the same stories."

"The Lost Symbol" once again features the fictional, mystery-solving Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon (Hanks) in a story taking place over a 12-hour period in Washington DC. It is a follow-up to the events in "Da Vinci Code."

Smart move, Hanks should have done the same. Probably still difficult for him to leave a cash cow like this.

Ron Howard, Man that guy has made some very average movies.

Like both of these film they could have been exciting thrillers instead they are total snooze fests.

A new director is good news IMO

Davinci 3 ?? what da f*ck? Has anyone read the books?? The Stories are totally independent from each other. It NO f*ckin DaVinci Code 3!! The Lost Symbol was the best one in my opinion. The Story is incredibly good and intense. And yeah the first two movies werent that good. Maybe thats why Howard dropped out. But with a new director on board they could make a good one. But actually I wouldnt blame it on the director cuz I thought the direction was good in terms of cinematography and editing and the built up. The weakness lied in the script. They should hire a good writer make it a 3 h movie and stick to the book as good as you can! I'd really like to watch it.

As suspense, thrillers these movies have been quite good.

Wouldn't mind a third.

I could take or leave Ron Howard directing the last one.

Having read the book, I don't think it'd make a very good movie. Maybe TV miniseries, but not a great movie. Then again, the other two Robert Langdon movie has been very weak and I'd say that Ron Howard's direction is actually the main reason for that, so good riddance.

@jakevermont: I don't know what were you smoking while reading TLS because it was terrible and maked no sense at all. The villian was a Red Dragon rip off and on top of that, remember the last 50 pages? It was like my grandpa lecturing me to death. Horrible book. Deception Point will be always the best.

And I will NOT return to see the 3rd installment, just like I skipped the 2nd one. Boring.
