Rhys Ifans Arrested After "The Amazing Spider-Man" Comic-Con Panel?

Rhys Ifans Arrested After "The Amazing Spider-Man" Comic-Con Panel?Submit Comment
Rhys Ifans, who plays The Lizard in "The Amazing Spider-Man," was involved in an incident on Friday before the film's panel at the San Diego Comic-Con. Police had to get involved.

Columbia Pictures issued a statement: "Rhys Ifans was detained by Comic-Con security after a brief incident backstage prior to and immediately following 'The Amazing Spider-Man' panel. Police were notified and a citation was issued to Mr. Ifans, who deeply regrets the incident."

But what really happened? The Wrap and Deadline claim to know, despite the fact that their reports are very different. The Wrap says that their account of the situation comes from police, while Deadline's comes from Sony/Columbia Pictures.

The Wrap: Rhys Ifans was arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery for shoving a female security guard before Friday night's Comic-Con panel for the film, police tell TheWrap. Ifans, who smelled of alcohol, became irate when a member of his entourage was unable to enter the hall for lack of proper credentialing, police said. He shoved the guard, and was allowed to participate in the panel, but the guard subsequently made a citizen's arrest.

"He was aggressive and belligerent," said Lt. Andra Brown. "He was berating everyone from the security staff to the United States of America."

Deadline: It was a minor incident involving a security guard and smoking backstage. Police were called. But I was told Rhys was not arrested and was not handcuffed by the police. I am told he was given a ticket. If Sony changes its story to me, I'll let you know but TheCrap (referring to The Wrap) is a notoriously inaccurate website.

Most female security guards are Black or Puerto Rican.

At least he didn't shove a sharpened pencil in someone's eye or rob a bank in a Darth Vader costume ... so this year's Comic-Con is looking up!

I completely believe that the security guard was a jerk. A lot of them are like that and are power trips. Some of these people are so stupid and have no common sense. You also have to blame bad bosses who don't have any oversight of their employees for this behavior. Any supervisor with responsibility would have told this woman to shut up and let the man's entourage through.

The Wrap and Deadline have two different stories but the other has Ifrans arrested and other one has Ifrans not arrested, I think Deadline is right but besides the female seems like a overweight security guard.

"He was berating everyone from the security staff to the United States of America" if he was doing that then the security should had brought in Captain America to kick The Lizard Man's ass.
