Arnold Schwarzenegger to Begin Shooting "The Last Stand" in September

Arnold Schwarzenegger to Begin Shooting "The Last Stand" in SeptemberSubmit Comment
Arnold Schwarzenegger was all set to begin filming "Cry Macho," under the direction of "The Lincoln Lawyer" helmer Brad Furman. But then news broke that the actor fathered a child with his maid, which lead to a divorce and putting all his film projects on hold.

Now comes word that Schwarzenegger is planning to get back to work, but "Cry Macho" won't be his big screen return. Instead, he'll star in a modern-day Western called "The Last Stand," the project that he was originally planning to make, before turning his attention to "Cry Macho."

"The Last Stand" is directed by South Korean filmmaker Kim Ji-woon (I Saw the Devil) and will begin shooting in September. It revolves around a small-town sheriff (Schwarzenegger) who must make a stand when a drug cartel leader tries to make a run for the Mexican border.

Schwarzenegger and Ji-woon? There's a match-up I never saw coming.

i did not expect that either. maybe Arnie spawning a little monster maid child was the best thing that could have happen to his movie career

Great! After his lovechild scandal I read that Stallone was supposed to star in The Last Stand. I really like Stallone, but whatever he does to his face(I assume lots of botox) really isn't working and he would look better if he aged naturally.

I hope Arnold returns to being a killermachine onscreen and stops to be a politician. This movie would be a horrible modern-day western, if he faces off against the drug cartel leader in a moral discussion.

"The Last Stand" Another ironic title from the guy who's legs are about to give way from the weight of his upper body, the media and bananas in pyjamas back pack.

A Korean directing an Austrian in an American western? There has to be a joke in there somewhere. Ranger must not be up yet :)

Arnold playing a humble town sheriff who’s forced to uphold the law with steely reserve (and a mean f**kin’ shotgun) – I’m all for it.

Kim Ji-woon has done a western before. and it was pretty bad ass.

It'll be nice to see him get back to work, but I don't know. There's not much room for him anymore. He's been edged-out of the frame by otfar more youthful action stars, although one could argue most them are failures in that genre, and he has always sold himself as, mostly, an action actor.

So now he's taking perhaps a more dramatic direction, and the question is, can he do it? Dunno. Can this Korean direct Arnold in a way that trades Arnold's physical bravura for a more nuanced meditation on acting? Maybe, but that's never been Arnold's more dependable ability, whereas blowing sh*t up with oool one-liners is his legendary trademark.

Arnold peaked under Cameron, and from there the man made one turd after another, hitting an action-genre low-tide mark with Collateral Damage, until he moved on to politics, and I feel his return has more to do with a lack of direction post-Governator than a real interest in returning to the profession of making films.

Also, his mentor is lost in LaLa Land with Avatar, and will be so for years, so I feel Arnold is quite adrift, old, overwight and well past his physical prime, so I have to wonder what he has left to offer anyone beyond the hardcore fans.

I thought his next movie was supposed to be:

'I banged and impregnated the ugly maid!'

Talk about a woman you'd have to tie a pork chop around her neck to get the dog to play with her, yet not sure repulsive Arnie didn't think about his dink.

Ugh!

The director of The upcoming Last Stand movie is famous for directing the Korean western Good the Bad and the Weird.Very Awesome, entertaining lots of action and almost 3 hours long.

It has a very good chance of not sucking especially with Arnold and his one liners

Arnold will do well in western, riding a horse. His legs are already bowed from the arthritis and the weight of carrying his dead torso.

There is a God!!!

Arnie coming back is great news, Kim Ji-Woon directing is awesome news. I watched The Good The Bad The Weird for the 1st time the other day and was blown away. A Bittersweet Life is amazing and I Saw the Devil very good, sick and original.
All we need now is for Arnie to officially drop that Governator sh*t!
