Agreed Freud. This has a lot to live up to. Carpenter's movie is one of my all time favorites. Good poster at least so far. Simple but effective.

I like the poster.... But not so sure about this. For instance, I don´t know why they put the same title from the first one when is suppose to be a prequel, why¿? They just can go in the same way like Alien prequel, good idea not calling Alien, just another name.... Maybe they can called it Shapeless or From Another World.... It will be more attractive for the prequel rather than called it The Thing...

well any movie that tries to follow the bad assery of another, 9 times out of 10 usually doesn't live up to expectations, because the 9 times out of 10, those films and the ideas for similar films are either decent at best or less

@johnnyb..

The answer to that is money..if it was called something else nobody would watch it...except the fans of "The Thing"...example...

"Karate Kid" set the story in a country that calls it "Kung Fu" but they still keep the name..if they changed the name it would not have made all that money.

Another prequel that we never needed to see. Mystery allows the viewer to make up it's own mind answering every question just defeats the object and sucks the substance out of a film.

the whole charm of the original was that there were no women, now they bring this winsted chick and this will f*ck everything up.

Who less than kut russel would make or break the thing as a film. Now they throw a chick in the mix and probably some sh*tty cgi monsters. No thanks, i can watch the original and not feel angry after.

THe "original" everyone is referring to is not the original.

Its the original to me, based off the book and true to the book. This might be ok, but they cant replace the desolate feeling and actors in the john carpenter film. Wilfred brimley c'mon...

^twas awesome in the thing....liked him better in the Natural

John Carpenters' "the thing" failed miserably at the box office. I remember when it came out all the critics took turns bashing it and him.
How can u make a sequel or prequel to a movie that bombed. I'll wait until I see the trailer to decide if this film is gonna be worth my hard earned $1,000. (Yea thats how much it cost to see a movie in my country and this is without a date)

Dre-EL

The Thing is like Bladerunner it gets more appreciated with age.

And it still grossed about $20 million back in 1982 at the US boxoffice which would be like taking 70/80 million today and for a horror film thats not too bad on a budget that wouldn't have been a third of that.

The first film was a success with many people in the years after it's debut because it's exceptionaly frightening, and arguably features some of the best non-CG effects works over the last three decades (Rob Bottin was only 22 at the time the film was shot).

For the first film, it was a labor of love, obviously, delivered by a patient and compelled craftsman, and you can see Carpenter's deep affinity in the detail and inordinate work that went into the various creature props throughout the film.

If I were any of you, I wouldn't expect much. This will be filled with lots of CG, massive amounts of gore, a no-name woman instead of badboy action legend Kurt Russell, and an inferior story. This is going to be the bastard lovechild of White Out and 28 Weeks Later.

They should just do a trilogy. The Thing Begins. The Dark Thing. The Dark Thing Rises.

Well, my work is done. I happily and effervescently await my royalty checks. Merci beaucoup.

Uh, yeah. Why keep the same title and yet have it be a prequel? That's just dumb. But I guess when the title is The Thing, it does make it hard to add something descriptive without sounding silly. Previous Thing. That Old Thing. The Damn Thing. Back That Thang Up. Violent Thing. Stupid f*cking Thing. Retarded Thing. That Thingy You Got. The Things People Do To Each Other (I don't mind that one so much). And Tom Hanks already did That Thing You Do. (Sighs). This is just a bad idea overall.
