First Look: TNT Greenlights New "Dallas" TV Series

First Look: TNT Greenlights New "Dallas" TV SeriesSubmit Comment
TNT has given the greenlight to "Dallas," a new TV series based on the popular show that aired from 1978 to 1991 and centered on the Ewing family, a cattle and oil dynasty occupying the expansive Southfork Ranch in Texas.

The new "Dallas" stars Josh Henderson ("90210"), Jesse Metcalfe (John Tucker Must Die), Jordana Brewster (Fast and Furious), Julie Gonzalo ("Veronica Mars") and Brenda Strong ("Desperate Housewives"). And they will be joined by Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray and Larry Hagman.

A long and bitter rivalry between brothers JR Ewing (Hagman) and Bobby Ewing (Duffy) eventually led to JR losing control of most of the Ewing industries. In the new "Dallas," this explosive rivalry now lives on through another generation, with the future of the family fortune in the hands of the Ewing offspring: cousins John Ross Ewing (Henderson), the son of JR and ex-wife Sue Ellen (Gray), and Christopher Ewing (Metcalfe), the adopted son of Bobby. Brewster stars as Elena, who is involved in a love triangle with Christopher and John Ross. Gonzalo stars as Christopher's fiancee, Rebecca. And Strong stars as Ann, Bobby's wife.

TNT has ordered 10 episodes of "Dallas," which is set to premiere in summer 2012. The network also unveiled the first promo photos from the new series. Check it out below.

Awesome. Maybe we'll finally find out who shot JR.

Didn't the first show run for 14 f*cking series? Wasn't that enough? And don't they know rebooting these 80s TV shows typically doesn't work well, if at all?

They tried it with Knight Rider. Fail. They tried rebooting A-Team into a movie and that didn't turn out good enough to demand a sequel, which seems to have a really low bar considering Green Lantern.

What's next, a Cosby Show reboot with Adam Sandler after his rock-bottom pandering to stupidity tires with even the Jackass crowd?

Some shows are rooted in the era in which they occur. It's called cultural context. You can't uproot a show like Dallas and try to make it take to the soil of a totally different cultural era.

Oh man, I used to love Dallas growing up. I was in front of that TV every Friday night for that and Falcon Crest when I was a kid. It's cool they've got J.R. and Bobby in it, I hope they have decent sized roles. And it will be interesting to see the Ewing kids grown up.

That said, it could be a disaster as well. TNT has some pretty good original shows (Leverage is awesome), but this is a classic of TV, one of the best shows ever IMO. I really hope they do it justice.

It'll be a disaster. You can tell from the unnecessarily attractive cast appealing to a demographic that's never seen the original, the godawful photoshopping and the bombastic posing that's quite different from the original cast assemblage:

I did like the theme song, that and Magnum PI (great riffs). I wonder why they haven't rebooted Sellick's old career vehicle.

Magnum P.I. now I would be up for that reboot if Sellick returned

The Cosby Show reboot

staring

Mustafa Powell who finally got a role in something

Will Smith's kids

and also staring

Precious as the mother

Filming location will be in Detroit.

Hollywood believes filming there will help the Detroit economy get back on its feet from all the tourist coming to watch it being filmed in the government handout capital of America

"Awesome. Maybe we'll finally find out who shot JR."

Kristen Shepard (Mary Crosby), but that's besides the point.

I remember watching this show. And ever since Bobby Ewing stepped out of the shower and said the whole season was a dream (Dallas' Jumping the Shark moment), I said f*ck this show. Now I'm saying it before this f*cknut of a 90210 spin on it starts : f*ck this show.

@Bandito - correct.

And didn't she also 'kill' Bobbie by running over him (that crazy bitch! - I know 'crazy' and 'bitch' in the same sentence is redundant)?

Crazy, you forgot Tyler Perry. And a Wayans brother, because you know they're always hungry. And horny for white women, apparently.

If I shoot JR, will this show never make it to the air? because, that is something I would seriously consider.

Duffy and Hagman are cool dudes, but these other two are fruitcakes. hope they die quick. the girls are stale too.

this show is doomed unless seinfeld shows her tits

f*ckin Dallas?
Wheres the poison dwarf and is Sue Ellen still going to be a melodramatic piss head?

tnt just ordered 10 episodes and will only end up airing 2... What a waste of f*cking time. f*cking Patrick Duffy, what a f*cking joke. And Larry Hangman, lay off of the acid man, you cant hire a woman to twitch their nose to revive your career... So please just go away..

@mink - "What's next, a Cosby Show reboot with Adam Sandler after his rock-bottom pandering to stupidity tires with even the Jackass crowd?"

Adam Sandler was in the (original) Cosby Show, he played Smitty, a (douchebag) friend of Theo's, for 4 episodes.

JR only shot his reflection in the mirror and then fled the country.

Cant be worse than half the sh*t TNT has on now... Seems like the only ideas they come up with now a days is either a cop show... Or a lawer show. Thats it.
