"Transformers: Dark of the Moon" Has Third Highest Worldwide DebutSubmit Comment
"Transformers: Dark of the Moon" ended up with the third biggest worldwide gross of all time through Sunday with $372 million, just behind "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" ($394 million) and "Spider-Man 3" ($382 million).

Domestically "Transformers 3" grossed $162 million and is expected to earn another $18.8 million on Monday (July 4th). The $180 million total is lower than the second installments' six-day debut of $200 million.

Meanwhile, "Larry Crowne," starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts, ended up in 4th place with $13 million behind "Cars 2" and "Bad Teacher." The other wide release of the weekend was Selena Gomez's "Monte Carlo" that landed right behind "Larry Crowne" in 5th place with $7.6 million. The $20 million film is on its way to make its money back.

I saw half of the first Transformers on bootleg and turned it off. When the second was released I walked into the theater showing it then walked out half way into that. The dog f*cking jokes did not amuse me or amything else for that matter. I won't be seeing the third no matter how many people I know rush to it.

I went to see Transformers this morning and I have to admit it was a vast improvement over the second film. Clocking in at 2 1/2 hours, the movie seemed to drag on and on with some of the fight scenes. Still I thought I got my moneys worth.

I had the misfortune of seeing Green Lantern today as well. Felt like that was 10 bucks wasted. The movie was...boring. The final battle was kinda weak.

It isn't a matter of liking Transformers, it's a matter of defending your tastes in movies by passing off Transformers as good film.

The fact that this movie is behind a Harry Potter movie and the Turd, I mean Third Spiderman movie (The only supervillian Topher Grace should ever be considered for is Dr. Bong from Howard the Duck) in regards to debuts still says quite a bit about something on Summer audiences : Popcorn flicks, for as deliberately pandering as they are, are the cheap, sh*tty, fast food version of cinema and Transformers 3 : Dark Side of the Moon is the turdfill Triple Layered Burrito which has officially debuted the stinkfest that is summer film.

If Transformers 3 were a musician, it would be the Michael Bolton of summer movies for 2011.

It's also very interesting to see how many people were actually duped by Michael Bay (even moreso than with Transformers 2 : Revenge of the Fallen).

@Horror Junky 4 Life

If you liked Transformers 3 and had a fun time watching it, then noone can take that feeling about cinema away from you. And if the movie is good or bad, all that matters is what you took away from after seeing it. If you felt a rush of creativity or adrenaline or excitement, then you found a connective bond with either the story, the characters or the direction. And to the moviegoer, that's all that should matter.

And no professional movie critic should convince you otherwise.

That being said, I'm typing this while wrapping up Return of the Jedi (edited by Lucas and sticking in the ghost of the young Anakin Skywalker instead of keeping story consistency of the elder statesman who played Vader after the mask was removed. For story canon, Lucas commits such a travesty just because he can. I mean, c'mon. Hayden Christiansen didn't pull any emotion out during the *sic* 'prequels', so to stick his mug in as the ghost of Vader/Anakin Skywalker is just f*cking sacriledge. And now I'm catching Casino Royale, which makes up in spades for Martin Campbell that atrocity of a superhero movie, Green Lantern. I mean, that parkour chase sequence, albiet probably with wires on the high cranes, was and is too f*cking cool for a chase scene.

Anyway, whatever movie your catching or tv show you've got on right now, I hope everyone is having a great Fourth of July weekend!

@Mink: I never said Transformers 3 was good. I simply belive I got my $6 bucks worth. I paid $3 bucks more for GL and felt it wouldn't have been worth a dollar rental from Redbox.
minkowski writes:

I was really talking to all the jackasses that spend hours defending Transformers on the basis that it's actually a good film, when in reality they just mean to say they have, ahem, poor taste and are easily entertained.

"I mean, that parkour chase sequence, albiet probably with wires on the high cranes, was and is too f*cking cool for a chase scene."

Yeah, true, but I have to opine that that (I hate double 'thats') parkour sh*t isn't worth more than one appearance in one film, and now that we can say that Casino Royale is that one film, let us never see it again.

Besides, I would have just shot the f*cker in the back of his knee. See where he bebops then.

Thanks Bandito. I know that my movie "taste" don't always match the general public but I figure it's my life and if I enjoy a flick that everyone else hates, so be it.

The Transformers movies are stupid. Really f*cking stupid. But there's a difference between a film and a movie. Transformers is a movie. And for what it is its enjoyable. Yeah its overlong with stupid unneeded dialog but it has very cool action set pieces and effect work. Its a guilty pleasure.
Adamtheflash writes:

I had a good time at this movie. It wasn't the best thing I've ever seen, and they could've eliminated some unneeded characters and scenes. It was just simple fun! Nothing wrong with that.

Figured someone might be looking for a positive comment on WP for once. They are so rare after all.
Cinemaisdead writes:

Adam- You wanna know why all the comments are so negative? Because films are so sh*t nowdays. I've seen positive comments on films that actually look good. The MI:4 thread the other day didn't have one bad comment in it. It's just people like you who want every one to be friends and jerk each other off and say yes we love every film regardless of how sh*t it is. This comment section is for people to comment on articles. 90 percent of cinema is sh*t so 90 percent of comments are gonna be, deal with it you retard.

This film hopefully will be great as the first one.

WTF do people expect from a movie with giant robots landing on earth and fighting each other!!!!! f*ckers just bitch to bitch and most didn't even see the movie so how the f*ck are you going to say it's sh*t, because its from BAY.... I could give a flying f*ck who directed it since I enjoyed the cartoon and when I do check old reruns of the cartoon I'm not expecting a f*cking intricate storyline like you f*cktards who bitch about the movie. You retards probably nitpicked the formation of the fireworks instead of enjoying the show..... JUST ENJOY THE SHOW YOU GODDAM CLOWNS.
Adamtheflash writes:

@Popcorn
Yeah that does sum it up pretty good. However, I actually laugh at the dirty comments from time to time. It's all in good fun. I hate how some folks have to be such movie snobs. They really think that they could do so much better.

There are comments that have comedic value, which is fine. It's all part of it. I'm really surprised that WP doesn't regulate these threads more. There used to be way more people that posted on this site with good constructive comments, and they've since been driven away.

I posted the comment I did to prove a point, and idiots like cinemaisdead didn't disappoint. I laugh at how he has such a negative view of the industry, but he constantly posts on a website devoted to movies. Then if someone says something he doesn't agree with, he whips out his "big boy" language. He is the "end all be all" of movies apparently.

I'm not saying that everyone should like Transformers 3. I didn't think it was groundbreaking or Oscar-worthy, but there's nothing wrong with enjoying a movie for what it is. Whatever happened to just being entertained?

@Cinema I look forward to your typical, uncreative and foul response. It just further proves my point, so keep it coming. Your attitude about movies is sad really...
Adamtheflash writes:
on July 5th, 2011 at 2:18:33 AM

Back to talking about the movie, this is copied from IGN.com and echoes my sentiment about Transformers 3:

"It took a terrible sequel to make Bay realize where his focus should be in this series, and in a way I'm glad it took that, because the end result is, in my opinion, the best film in the Transformers series. By hiring a different writer to pen the script, one that adheres a little more to the plot of the original cartoon series, Bay acknowledged the problems that lead to Revenge of the Fallen being such a disappointment. This time, the movie had an actual plot with enormous 'end of the world-level' stakes that guaranteed it would be the most epic entry in the series yet. While some annoying factors (like unnecessary comedy relief characters) remained, Dark of the Moon was a more focused, more comprehensible affair in every regard. Bay's use of 3D also ended up working to its advantage. Not only does the film have the most impressive live-action use of 3D since Avatar, the technology forced Bay to steady his camera movements for a change, actually allowing us to get a clear view of the action, which could be downright dizzying in the last two Transformers films. We also got to see Optimus Prime be the bad-ass he should have been from the beginning. You did well Mr. Bay. While many are not ready to forgive you, at least you gave it your all this time."

For those of you actually looking for constructive comments, this will hopefully do.

Transformers 3, the perfect film for children over the age of 18.
zyban03 writes:

I think I'll just go back to watching the original Transformers Movie (1986) and convince myself that the last 2 movies never happened.

Don't get me wrong this movie had some funny parts and some cool fight scenes but that's it. I was hoping for a sequel that would erase ROTF from the map and continue from the first movie, which IMO was a decent movie.

I know!! Another negative post about Transformers but I grew up with the Transformers and was really wanting something similar to the original series.
minkowski writes:

If Hasbro had half a f*cking brain, they'd commission a relatively cheap sequel to the 1986 movie. Pick up from the headmasters/targetmasters saga. Introduce characters like Super Megatron. Would make a sh*tLOAD of money from folks like me.
synthetic1985 writes:
on July 5th, 2011 at 12:55:53 PM

if hasbro and hollywood had any dignity left, they'd reboot transformers and give the fans of the series a film that follows the series almost completely but in live action or even cgi would be great, because that right there is what the fans have been asking for...other average movie goers will watch if they're interested, in which case a lot didn't like the show and didn't really care for transformers as a film either...and no average movie goer really knew what x-men was all about until they started watching the cartoons and/or read the comics...i think i liked it better when the films hadn't existed yet, it's sad to say these words...shows like x-men and transformers used to be the sh*t, now they're just sh*t
Mr.SandMan writes:
on July 5th, 2011 at 6:45:30 PM

I too wished that they would have just copied the cartoon and the 86' movie style. As much as I enjoy the flicks, the look of the robots are meeeeh.

Agreed just reboot that sh*t and make it look like my old transformers.
