"Fantastic Four 2" Writer to Pen "Thor" Sequel

"Fantastic Four 2" Writer to Pen "Thor" SequelSubmit Comment
We just reported that Disney and Marvel are planning to release the sequel to "Thor" on July 26th, 2013. Deadline has now learned that the studios already have a writer on board.

That writer is Don Payne, one of the credited scribes on the first film. But he has other experience with superhero/comic book films. He also recently re-wrote "Lobo" for Warner Bros, penned "My Super Ex-Girlfriend" and is behind "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer."

Regarding "Thor 2," Chris Hemsworth is locked to reprise the lead role. Director Kenneth Branagh, on the other hand, will not be returning.

Really? They are getting the screenwriter from The Fantastic Four : Rise of the Silver Surfer to pen Thor II? Why don't they just have a disclaimer saying "This movie shown is sh*ttier than it seems to appear", for truth in advertising ?

Just coz he penned the script means nothing to the final product. The script that a writer hands in is never the script that ends up on screen. I'd be more inclined to bash the studios and to some extent certain directors for turning the films to sh*t, not the writer. Once he/she turns over a script they are usually shunned from the project and get pretty much no say in how it turns out. As yet, Marvel Studios have not made a bad film. Sure some haven't been great, but very far from bad. They have pretty consistantly made good judgement calls. We'll see after CA hits.

Considering how Marvel movies have been *how can I say this delicately?* 'f*cked sideways to Sunday' on and off since Ang Lee's 'Hulk', this news doesn't really surprise me.

Now if they said "Joel Schumacher, acclaimed director of past superheroic, acclaimed movies Batman Forever and Batman & Robin to helm Thor II", then it f*cking would.

" As yet, Marvel Studios have not made a bad film. "

Marvel titles which did not 'fair' well:

Ang Lee's 'Hulk'

Spiderman 3

Elektra

Daredevil

Iron Man 2

Blade: Trinity

Punisher

Punisher: War Zone

Howard the Duck (Okay. To be fair, Howard was made in the Eighties.)

Fantastic Four

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

Roger Corman's Fantastic Four

The Punisher : Starring Dolph Lundgren

Captain America (1990)

Wolverine: Origins

XMen: The Last Stand

GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra (formerly a Marvel property)

Transformers II: Revenge of the Fallen (formerly a Marvel Property)
Bandito dela Pepto Bismol writes:

^ and Transformers III : Dark of the Moon
(again, Transformer's comic book licensing * like GI Joe's * was handled by Marvel in the 1980s)

Thor was great, the best comic book movie of the year along with X-Men: First Class.

The guy wrote Fantastic Four 2 is writing Thor 2?

Come on, bring back Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Strentz, they did the whole script for Thor and it was great.

While Don Payne who co-wrote Thor, may have done all the jokes.

Well that's highly unfortunate, the first Thor had incredible direction. For a filler superhero movie, which actually ended up being far more enjoyable than expected, the direction was very much on point thanks to Branagh. Chris Hemsworth returning is a given, and a plus since he actually was very good in the lead, but I am wary to see who will replace Branagh and will try to direct a worthy sequel to a surprisingly decent Marvel adaptation.

Sorry if you knew already but I wasn't too sure. None on that list of films is made by Marvel Studios, they were all co-produced so the studio that bought the rights (Fox, Sony etc) called the shots. Their independent films have done quite well.
