Disneyland's Matterhorn Ride to Become "The Hill" Movie with Yetis

After "Pirates of the Caribbean" became a huge hit for Disney, the company has been looking to turn other park rides into big-budget films. Jon Favreau (Iron Man) is already set to direct "Magic Kingdom" and Guillermo Del Toro is developing "Haunted Mansion."

Now comes word that Jason Dean Hall has been hired to write the script for "The Hill," based on the Matterhorn ride. Justin Springer (Tron Legacy, Prom) is producing.

The Matterhorn, also known as the Matterhorn Bobsleds, is part of Disneyland's Fantasyland section. Opened June 1959, the elaborate ride was inspired by Walt Disney's desire for a toboggan-themed roller coaster as well as thoughts he had after an extended trip to Switzerland, the site of the famed mountain. The ride, a centerpiece of the park, was refurbished in 1978, with one of the upgrades being the addition of three automatronic Abominable Snowmen (aka Yetis) who growl at riders.

The idea behind "The Hill" is to do a thrilling, fast-paced movie centering on five young adventure seekers who, for mysterious reasons, are called to the top of the mountain and encounter a Yeti on the journey down.

And wasn't it a sh*tty remake of a sh*ttier original movie: Return to Witch Mountain ?

Guess if they keep f*cking the dismembered head of Walt Disney a good idea will fall out. Or Walt's eyeball.

I wonder what Disney will do when they can no longer whore out their rides as films, because they don't have much in the idea bank elsewhere. They can only make Pixar pump out so much crap a year, like Cars 2, beofre they ruin even that company's name. Good job Disney, you've set a new bar in the corporate gutting of what used to be something of an art.

They already made a Haunted Mansion movie with Eddie Murphy, although they should probably pretend it just doesn't exist.
