EpixHD put up a photo on their Twitter account showing 80-year-old William Shatner and 30-year-old Chris Pine, who both played Captain James T Kirk in "Star Trek," in an arm wrestling match.

The shot is from a documentary that will air on Epix. Called "The Captains," the new movie was filmed over the last year and has Shatner sitting down with all of "Star Trek's" captains, like Patrick Stewart, Kate Mulgrew, Avery Brooks, Scott Bakula and Pine.

"He's shy," Shatner said about Pine. "So the way I started the interview, I put out a table and chairs outside the Paramount gates, and arm-wrestled with him. That was the beginning of my interview with him. I think it broke the ice, that's for sure."

Questions: Who do you think won the arm wrestling match?

This should be an interest watch.

Patrick Stuart won me over as Captain (Shat is still my fav.). And Pine did a great job in Star Trek. Looking forward to this.

I would like to think Shatner has the upper body strength. Pine is pretty skinny but he has youth and endurance. It's a tough call.

But because William Shatner is the ONLY Captain Kirk, I'll choose him. Don't care for Pine at all. He's not fit to change Shatner's diapers.

Shatner is 80 years old!?!? Holy sh*t I thought he was in his 60s or something.... dayum that man is doing well

If Chris Pine doesn't let Shatner win, he's an *sshole.

He pretty much has to. Bragging rights of beating an 80 year-old arm-wrestling won't get him very far.

Mr.Shatner.

Rambo, I want to have sex with your avatar, then marry it, divorce it and then cheat my next wife with it.

Shatner does sound like a cool guy.

"Bragging rights of beating an 80 year-old arm-wrestling won't get him very far."

Neither will his acting abilities, tbh.

Not to forget that Shatner also stood up and acted against Ernest Borgnine in The Devils Rain. That makes him super badass.

And is also the face of Michael "the shape" Myers...who in a way acted against Donald Pleasence. That makes him ultimate on all levels.
Ranger writes:

Shatner also did the original Twilight Zone episode that was re-played by Lithgow in the movie.

Yeah, the Shat Mask. lol. They were on a such a fixed budget at the time, like 300k+, and half that went to Panovision cameras, so they had to cheat on the wardrobe and other sh*t (like filming locations wherein they used painted paper leaves), including the mask. All the actors IIRC had to wear their own clothing, except for Curtis who spent like a hundred bucks of her own money on some new threads.

Originally, Carpenter and crew went to some guy who crafted props like face masks, but he wouldn't do it for them at the price they wanted, so they went out and bought A 1966 Star Trek mask of Bill Shatner's face, adjusted the eye holes a bit and painted it white. Clever.

Shatner later said he had no idea that the mask was of him and considered it an honor. lol, Bill, they just went cheap my good man, and you, mask and all, come very cheap. So a bit of ego on his part, but he's still. A cool. Guy.

Ranger writes:

@Dave - it was too obvious for me to leave off the table.

@Rambo - Star Trek was taken so lightly when they were filming, it never had a decent budget. Thank God Lucille Ball fought hard to have the show made and funded what she did. A thing that amuses still me about the original series is how many sets and props they reused in different episodes. That console Kirk was beating on held the cloaking device in 'The Enterprise Incident' and whenever they boarded another ship, notice how the alien ship's engine room looked a whole lot like that of the Enterprise... oh, with some walls moved. Even walking down the corridors of the Enterprise that gap where the walls met the floor... clearly the whole ship was on wheels. Oh, and that cloaking device had the body of Nomad in 'The Changling' episode, and the storage globe of 'Sargon' from another episode.

Pretty resourceful set and prop people on that low-budget stuff.
minkowski writes:
on June 26th, 2011 at 2:52:17 PM

Televison the 60s, Ranger, had a very limited budget, so the fact Star Trek got made at all is probably something of a miracle.
Ranger writes:
on June 26th, 2011 at 5:46:39 PM

It was just that.

At least Lucille Ball could see Roddenberry's vision.
