James Spader in Talks to Play Dunder Mifflin CEO on "The Office"

James Spader in Talks to Play Dunder Mifflin CEO on "The Office"Submit Comment
James Spader is in negotiations with NBC to join "The Office" next fall, but not simply as Michael Scott's (Steve Carell) replacement.

Producers want the actor to become the CEO of Dunder Mifflin, replacing Kathy Bates, who will exit the show to focus on season 2 of "Harry's Law."

While Bates was a guest star in the series, Spader will have a significant weekly presence. The actor's deal is not finalized yet, but everything goes as planned, his character - Robert California - will be introduced in the premiere as the new office manager.

California decides the role is too small for him, and somehow talks corporate into appointing him as its new CEO. He will have a strong impact on the rest of the office staff.

James Spader looks like a fat tub of sh*t these days talk about an 80s actor being washed up.

Oh he washed up, Bando.

On a f*cking beach.

Yeah, washed up with three Emmys and a starring role to come on one of TV's most popular shows.

I'd like to be that washed up.

Television is where old actors go to die and young actors are born. For the old fat ones, it's second tier at best. So Bando is correct: he's a washed-up *movie* star.

I would disagree just because I think TV has grown into an art form to be respected as much as cinema (you have to look in the right places as with films however). TV gives people the opportunity to develop characters, storylines, and environments. What makes "The Godfather" more legitimate than "The Wire", for example? I definitely don't consider it a place for washed up actors.

And if we're going to get that technical, Bando never specified washed up "movie" actor.

Spader had another chance at a comeback in 2000.he starred in two movies the Sci-fi by Walter Hill and francis Ford coppola called Supernova which failed miserably only making around 15 million out of a 60 million budget.and the watcher with Keanu Reeves as a serial killer which was short of 5mil from a 33million budget. Two fails and then after that straight to dvd movies.

Another actor who transitioned to tv was Christian Slater who has or had a show this past season dont know if its still around.

James spader is a great actor who mostly did small movies.Probably his biggest one was Stargate with Kurt Russel.check out his movies like Secretary,2 days in the Valley, keys to tulsa,Crash, bad influence, less than zero, and even Wolf with jack nicholson.

i respect your opinion my friend but horiffic is a heavy word, baldwin was great in the cooler and he is always great in supporting roles like in the departed
bandolero999 writes:

He's a whiner,he couldnt handle the leading man life and is happy of being a fat f*ck and says that he couldnt handle the attention and the pressure so he went into supporting roles instead.but if u like baldwin then thats you, personally i think his brother the fatter one is a greater actor.

And if you saw the departed please watch the original chinese version called infernal affairs before it was butchered by Scorcese

It's been hard to watch the office after Micheal left and all these guest star gimmicks.

What can I say.... I´m a Officeholic fan. I like his character and the way he was introduced in The Office season finale.... Definitely it can´t replace Michael´s charisma, but will give a new twist of the show until their cancellation. I give this sitcom only one more year and that´s all. Michael Scott was the soul and body of the show and nobody can replace him.

Gosh golly!

James Spader joining 'The Office' ? What more can be said of this Brat Pack thespian that hasn't been already spoken by my fellow Previewians, who I humbley respect with such awe and admiration. He has shown, time and time again, that he can pull off smarmy in such a way as can only be done by one other Brat Packian: the late, great cokehead and porn whore, Charles Sheen! Good god, is that James Spader or David Foley ? I mean, this man must've saved up money on his past work to afford hair plugs and time at the gym. James, please don't let your looks go! Don't go down that William Shatner road, man! You may have worked with the man, but you don't have to look like him, for dear God!
