Julia Ormond is Superman's Kryptonian Mother in "Superman" Reboot

Posted: June 24th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Julia Ormond is SupermanSubmit Comment
About a week ago, it was reported that Connie Nielsen (Gladiator) was in talks to play Superman's Kryptonian mother Lara in Zack Snyder's upcoming "Superman" reboot.

Now comes word that Nielsen is out and Julia Ormond (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Che) has been offered the role. If she takes the part, she'll star alongside Russell Crowe, who recently signed on to play Jro-El, the Kryptonian father of Superman (Henry Cavill).

Kevin Costner and Diane Lane will play Clark Kent's Earthbound parents. The film is set to hit theaters in December of 2012.

Just hope the script lives up to the cast involved.

First Diane Lane and now Julia Ormond? Damn, that Superman is one lucky bastard. Both his moms are MILF.

This movie is looking like it can be very good the casting is superb I like russell Crowe even though that was a surprise cast. As long as the script is good and superman actually punches someone it should great

No it's going to suck because the people involved don't understand Superman. They think they can make the film some sort of character study like they tried to do with Batman. Won't work.

Superman by his nature is grandiose. He's not a thinker or a tinkerer. He's not a contrast in personalities. He's monolithic. He's the Man of Action, and when you try to make him into something more than an engine for epic battles, things get muddled very quickly.

That's what's going to happen here. WB should have, in all reality, gone the Bay route and made the film about lots of CGI, lots of tremendous fighting and lots of wild cinematography.

But they just can't let the ghost of Donner go.

@Mink
While you make some good points, I will respectfully disagree. I have a few doubts about this movie as well, but I think this time we'll finally see a descent Superman movie. Note I said descent, not great. There's way too much money to be made with this potential franchise, and clearly WB is pulling out a lot of stops with casting. They're hoping to make as much money from this as the Batman franchise.

Money runs all things, and they'll want people to see this flick two or three times in theaters, and break records with the sequel. That isn't going to happen if they tank it with another Donner knock off, and I think the execs know that. If they believed the Donner thing would stick, then they would continue on from Superman Returns. Clearly they've decided to go a different direction.

And in the case of Zack Snyder, the guy has had his share of stinkers no doubt. But he's never had guys to work with behind the scenes like Nolan and Goyer to work with.

There's a ton at stake with this movie. If it flops, we may not see another attempt at Superman in our lifetime. Who knows what the outcome of this legal battle will be for rights to the character? I really hope they continue to go all in here.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but I don't think they'll mess this movie up.
