"Horrible Bosses" Director to Reboot "War Games"

"Horrible Bosses" Director to Reboot "War Games"Submit Comment
In 2008, we got a straight-to-video sequel to "War Games," called "War Games 2: The Dead Code." A year later, Leonardo DiCaprio's production company Appian Way announced that it will reboot the franchise for MGM.

Now comes word that the studio has hired Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses, The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters) to direct the new film. Deadline says that he will be given lots of freedom to come up with a unique take that won't include Pong game.

The original 1983 film starred Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy as computer prodigies who find a back door into a military computer program. They think they are playing games with the computer only to find they could trigger WWIII if the computer launches nuclear missiles at the Russians.

@cinema...guess not.

He must have seen the money "The Karate Kid" remake made and just thought "f*ck it"

Godammit Hollywood!! Leave the 80's alone!!

No one appreciates the countless remakes and reboots that are made and more times than not the film is not nearly as good as the original. The karate kid for example the original was a classic it was cheesy but it worked and was great but the remake didnt do it any justice. Stop with the reboots! We should petition these things haha

Ally Sheedy was not a prodigy in this movie. She was just some bitch he wanted to bang. She was hung up on the size of his keyboard.

The only 80s movies that need rebooting are Critters and Cyborg those two have potential

Reboots please stop remaking the 80's classics movies, first Commando now this, what's next E.T and Terminator.

Hollywood is so stupid that it doesn't realise that there are many games that can be turn into movies like Halo, Metal Gear Solid, Gear Of War and Modern Warfare.

Ally Sheedy never gave me a woody ,so imagine 30 years later.Dicaprio having a production company is even worse.he does not realize that hes been lucky in Hollywood his whole life to be able to work with the best directors in Hollywood just like Shia ladouche

The first one, though a good film, relied on a very, very stupid premise: that you can hack into a missile and launch it using little more than a high powered digital abacus. You can't.

Now I know the orignal film tried to smooth this little problem out, by having the military engage in war games, but still, you couldn't nor can you now, access command and control computer systems through the internet, and back then, there was no internet, there were only telephone connections, so you would have to find a way to get into the missile command system through a hard line, and that could never ever happen, mostly because those systems are isolated, and also because some sh*tty Macintosh couldn't interface with military software, but mostly because, as I said, you can't, no matter what, launch a nuke sitting at home playing on your computer.

You know why everything in war games was far fetched and implausible? Because its a f*cking cheesy 80s movie dood. Calm down.

Yessa massa.

"Because its a f*cking cheesy 80s movie dood."

Nah. Like 60% of films over the last 40 years are implausible. Battle LA? Totally. Adjustment Bureau? Absolutely. Thor, TDK, Green Lantern? Yep. Even Collateral's preposterous.

Oh, and Contact. Another one I was thinking about the other day. Where'd the other machine come from? Oh, the engineer guy, he just whipped one up like in five hours. Must have had it laying about. No big deal, just one hanging around on a super-seceret Japanese island.

Yeah, ok.

Thing cost several nations of the world a few trillion dollars or something and somehow (LMAO) some religious nut (redundant?) not only gets aboard as part of the maintenance crew, he miraculously smuggles aboard a bomb powerful enough to blow the damned mmachine to shards.

Yeah, sure. You can't even sneak an M80 into a school these days.

And then someone in the film comments, yeah, we don't know how the thing works, referring to the machine. Uh huh, so all those scientists and engineers poured over blueprints from the stars, and yet didn't ever discover what they were building and how it works.

After awhile, you start to wonder if not quite the brightest folks get jobs writing screenplays.

"Even Collateral's preposterous."

Because well-trained veteran assassins always rent out minority cabbies to ferry them from one murder site to another.

Ever hear of Hertz, Vincent, you badass sociopath in the backseat? Yeah, well another killer did. His name was OJ. Take a clue, moron.

And don't even get me started on The Matrix (batteries from humans? LMFAO). Movie makes zero sense. Just a great showcase vehicle for wirefu.

I've been inside of NORAD.

The movie sets made it look very glamorous (to no ones surprise).

Ranger writes:

Tons of places. But NORAD was pretty kewl. I think they gutted that mountain for something like $71 - $72mil back in the 50's.

Jesus, I just realized, looking over the trivia for War Games, I somehow misspelled Stephen Hawking's name in a previous thread.

Damn.

My apologies, wheelchair dude.

(scientist Stephen Falkin is based on Stephen Hawking, and was originally meant to be played by that guy Mark David Chapman shot.
