Update: James McAvoy to Replace Michael Fassbender in Danny Boyle's "Trance"

Update: James McAvoy to Replace Michael Fassbender in Danny BoyleSubmit Comment
Last month it was reported that Danny Boyle (127 Hours, Slumdog Millionaire, 28 Days Later) has been developing "Trance" thriller as his next film and had Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class) as the lead.

Now comes word that Fassbender is out and his "First Class" co-star James McAvoy is in early discussions to replace him.

Update: Fox Searchlight has confirmed that the story is wrong. In turns out that McAvoy is not replacing Fassbender, but joining him. Unless one of the deals falls apart, the "X-Men: First Class" actors will be re-teaming for "Trance."

Boyle plans to begin filming in September and then put everything on hold to focus on the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony. In August of 2012, Boyle will return to the film and have it ready by March of 2013.

"Trance" is a remake of a 2003 British movie and centers on an art heist. An assistant at an auction house masterminds the heist and teams up with a gang of thieves, but suffers a blow to the head and wakes up with amnesia. He is the only one who knows where the painting's location is and after his continued failure to remember, the gang begins to suspect duplicity on his part and hire a female hypnotist to get into his brain.

Fassbender sounds like he would have been the better choice for this type of movie, but McAvoy is still nothing to complain about. Both are good actors and Danny Boyle knows how to bring the best out of his cast.

Teh film's plot sounds terrible. Poor Boyle, they guy used to make comprehensible films, now he makes ads for assistaed suicide. Seriously, a hypnotist and an art heist? That's his best? Whiners always complain about doing their best but winners go home and f*ck the prom queen.

So f*ck the prom queen Boyle!

I rather see a Trainspotting sequel instead.

Fassbender should do 'Magneto-Nazi Hunter'.I want 120 minutes of him hunting nazis around the world.he can start with lars von trier and Denmark

Sounds intriguing. Fassbender may be the better actor but McAvoy has that meek look, one would expect an assistant at an auction house would have.

@Rambo: Amen

Hurray for Fassbender, I just barely realized he's been a Nazi hunter twice. In films recently apart. Weird...

Oh yeah, a female hypnotist? That sounds... fairly dumb. Also, wouldn't this guy usually have a hole in the middle of his forehead if their is suspicion of duplicity?
