Guillermo Del Toro Will NOT Direct "Hellboy 3"

Guillermo Del Toro Will NOT Direct "Hellboy 3"Submit Comment
Ever since "Hellboy II: The Golden Army" hit theaters, Guillermo Del Toro has been saying that he would love to direct a third/final installment. Unfortunately for "Hellboy" fans, Del Toro is working on more projects than he can handle, making the third film less of a priority every day.

Back in March, the director said that there have been zero discussions about "Hellboy 3" at Universal Pictures. And now, Mike Mignola, the creator of the "Hellboy" comic book, confirmed that Del Toro will never return to the franchise.

"Last I heard he said he would not make it," said Mignola. "In every interview there's a new story on what his next movie is and he honestly believes he's going to do all these things. But last I heard, he said 'I'm never gonna get back to Hellboy.' I'm not surprised because he won't live long enough to do a tenth of the movies he's told me he's going to make."

It's no surprise that Universal is not eager to continue the franchise, since the first two installments failed to make back the budget domestically.

Well, the f*cker could have directed this thing in the last three years between 2008-2011 but he was too busy talking about projects he simply pretends to be directing. (Darren Aronofsky is heading the same route). f*cking directors these days need to just pick something already. That obnoxious "Fast Five" hack Lin is attached to like 10 projects along with Fuqua.

Anyway, I'm sure between worldwide theater sales, DVD/Bluray sales, etc. Hellboy 2 must have made a decent profit.

Sounds a straight reboot from this one..... It doesn´t surprise me. Del Toro is better doing his own stuff in other countries than being in Hollywood ground where everything is CGI and plot hole in this moment!!!!!

Didn't like the first, not seen the second..so..don't really care.

the first 2 movies were average at best and with the inflation of comic book movies recently i think it's better to let this franchise rest for while.

Really like the first and loved the second one. It's too bad he'll never get around to making another, but hes been saying this for quite a while now. The main reason the second one didn't do so well was because it came out a week before The Dark Knight. It got great reviews but it never had a chance of drawing enough people. Maybe if Ron Perlman would have died right before it came out, more people would have noticed.

If they had Hellboy finished and released within two years, which wouldn't and won't happen, I'm pretty sure they'd make their money back domestically. I think after 3 years people are going to be sick of the superhero genre though.

oh well Ron Perlman for the last two years has been getting work lately so thats a good thing. He starred in the Nicolas Cage movie that bombed in the medieval times and in the Conan remake.

@Rambo

"Average at best"?

I'm sure you thought Transformers 2 and Green Lantern were perfect movies too. f*ckin moron, douchebag, a-hole, jerkass.

If thats your definition of average then you should stop watching movies.

^^^Whoa, I'm no fan of Rambo, but there's no f*cking need to attack him because he didn't like Hellboy. A rather significant number of individuals didn't care for either film.

Grow the f*ck up you little punk *sshole.

"If thats your definition of average then you should stop watching movies."

If that's your definition of a post, you should shut the f*ck up.

As for the news, what can be said except to say that neither film was terribly profitable, and del Toro has taken on too many projects, many of which he'll never complete. Studios aren't interested in fronting him the cash to make another commercial failure. So there's the end of that.

Nightjunkie, Do you still love nature, despite what it did to you?

I do agree with Rambo this movie was average definitely not a guilty pleasure like Bade 2.I liked it because Ron Perlman was the lead and he usually does some horrifying B movies and his character was badass.

Dang. Del Toro handled the series really well. And he also proved to us that Ron Pearlman is awesome, more so when he plays this character.
But since he's off this (for now), he can pay attention to finishing his video game, book series and Pacific Rim. Maybe he can trick a studio into finally letting him bring to life that HP Lovecraft story.

Mike Mignola is sounding bitter with his little quip there.

the second one was real sh*tty. I liked the original 4 what it was. I don't think a 3rd one is necessary at all
