"Hot Wheels" Movie Still in the Works

Posted: June 17th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
"Hot Wheels" Movie Still in the WorksSubmit Comment
First it was Columbia Pictures and director McG (Terminator Salvation) that tried to turn "Hot Wheels," the popular Mattel car toy line, into a feature film. Then Warner Bros and producer Joel Silver took over, but dropped the property as well after "Speed Racer" bombed in theaters.

But now that "Fast Five" has become a major franchise, Legendary Entertainment has entered negotiations with Mattel to acquire the film rights to "Hot Wheels" and develop their own movie. Since Legendary is based at Warner Bros, the studio will still be involved.

A number of filmmakers have been vying to acquire the property, including producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers) and Joe Roth (Alice in Wonderland). But Mattel already has an existing relationship with Legendary and Warners. Mattel makes toys based on WB's DC Comics properties like Superman, Batman and Green Lantern.

Legendary Entertainment are doing a big mistake making a Hot Wheels movie, who will the film will be aimed at ?

Kids maybe, adults no well or car loves, I don't think so as they would like to drive real cars not toy ones.

Speed Racer still bombed even when the movie was aimed at kids who didn't want to watch the movie because of schools, trips or they didn't bother to go to the cinema because it was sh*t.

Legendary Entrainment should drop this idea and continue making the remake of Godzilla which is a good idea and make it feel like it's like Cloverfield meets E.T.

What are you on about? Kids go to the cinema a lot they drag parents to see the latest shrek any day, how would they know it was sh*t? adverts? They're kids it's fast cars driving about and pretty colours I don't think the marketing team knew who the film was aimed at adding the creators of the matrix doesn't help parents decisions either.

They already made this piece of sh*t movie. It was called 'Cars'.

On the other hand, I an see how to make this film work, sort of, but it would have to take large liberties with f*cking toys that just roll around.

Cool designs by Scott Robertson, though. Guy's brilliant when it comes to this sh*t.

The launchers... lol.

@BigDaddy... were those the elastic-loaded ones you had to (re)shift every time a car went through it? I had one of those.
