Steven Spielberg Working on "Jurassic Park 4"

Steven Spielberg Working on "Jurassic Park 4"Submit Comment
Director Joe Johnston (Captain America, The Wolfman) has been in talks to direct "Jurassic Park 4" for many years. Sam Neill has already given his opinion that the franchise does not need to continue, but Johnston is still interested.

But now, Steven Spielberg is starting to become serious about the fourth installment. He has even been meeting with screenwriter Mark Protosevich (Thor, I Am Legend) to come up with a story. The two were recently working on an "Oldboy" remake, before the film ran into rights issues.

Looking at the box office numbers for the "Jurassic Park" trilogy, each installment has been performing worse than the last one while the budget has been increasing. The first film grossed $914 million worldwide on a $63 million budget. The sequel grossed $618 million on a $73 million budget. And the third film grossed $368 million on a $93 million budget. Clearly there is still money to be made.

Spielberg needs to stop gripping onto the metaphorical mountain ledge that is his career and let go, literally as well, jump off a mountain Spielberg die as a legend. What could they possibly do with number 4? New island? Done it. Dinosaurs on the loose in the real world? Check. Raptors playing basketball? BINGO!

@ cinemaisdead:

Spielberg´s career has been dead a long time. Only that the poor guy doesn´t want to recognize that he run out of ideas and he is old..... So that´s the reason he is like Hollywood.... Start to milk every franchise he can until is f*ck up!!!!!

Geez, talk about resuscitating a dinosaur. It seems that's exactly what spielberg is trying to do with the franchise.

@ Rambo

what? A movie about Dinosaurs being resurrected from a single mosquito ?
the fact Spielberg is making a big cinematic comeback now?
The fact Mark PRosvana who gives a f*ck is writing another screenplay?

As if Indiana Jones wasn't f*cked up enough, here we go with this.

If he is producing and leaves the directors job to someone else it might work.

As long a Fail Johnston stays the f*ck away from this I'm up for some 3D dinasours.

No Sequel, just leave the series as a trilogy but if Steven Spielberg directs the foruth movie, then this might scare this gerenation just like it did to the old one in 1993.

The first one is a classic masterpiece.

As a director, Spielberg has sadly run out of steam. it's a bummer- i think dudes like him forget how to direct good movies because they become so sidelined as big-budget producers... sometimes I wonder if people like him or George Lucas would benefit from having the purse strings tied up and forcing them to make smaller movies on tiny budgets- their best work came from situations like that.

Are you serious?? So his last two movies weren't that great, nobody is perfect! He's still one of the greatest movie directors all time.
rabid writes:

I'd be willing to see more of the story. I would normally think the idea of another film post-Crichton farfetched, but last year they churned out a comic book (complete with gnarly Frank Miller cover) that reads much like the rumored script, and there's another Jurassic comic on the horizon.
This might actually be happening.
minkowski writes:
on June 16th, 2011 at 3:02:09 PM

Actually, pretty much most of what Crichton ever wrote was scientifically far-fetched, from the Andromeda Strain to Prey. The only book he ever wrote that made much sense was Airframe, and perhaps State of Fear. And maybe the Great Train Robbery. And unlike you, rabid, I actually read the books and not the 22-page comic book editions.

"what? A movie about Dinosaurs being resurrected from a single mosquito ?"

The idea of regenerating dinosaurs from mosquitos frozen inside amber is actually not entirely impossible, I guess, but well outside the range of the likely.

Most amber specimens, and they are pretty rare, have, if anym, only highly fragmented dino DNA molecules, so the idea is to somehow resequence using pre-existing reptile DNA, filling in the gaps.

Then, you find a reptilian egg cell, remove the nuclear DNA, insert your hybrid dino DNA and initiate fertilization.

What do you get? No one knows. maybe a dnosaur, maybe Oprah. There's no scientific consensus yet.

Anyway, the process has about as much chance of working successfully as Uwe Boll winning an Oscar for best director.

"Raptors playing basketball? BINGO!"

Wouldn't work. All the black guys would just get pissed and rob them.

Ah, Spielberg. What past glory looks like after its transformed into aimless insanity.

"Ah, Spielberg. What past glory looks like after its transformed into aimless insanity."

What happened with this fellow ? I used to respect him and view him as the best of the best (and still do, but...).

An icon, a legend. Now it seems like it's all over for him.

Mickey: Well, Rock, let's put it this way. Now, three years ago you was supernatural. You was hard and you was nasty and you had this cast-iron jaw but then the worst thing happened to you, that could happen to any fighter. You got civilized. But don't worry kid. You know, presidents retire, horses retire, Man-o-war retired. They put him out to stud. That's what you should've done, retired.

Steven Spielberg has sold out his name. I can't remember the last good movie that was associated with him. He lacks any sort of credibility with me any more.

f*ck Spielberg I'm tired of hearing his name. So many young talented directors out there waiting for opportunities and yet we continue getting the same regurgitated sh*t.

@Mink Thanks for posting and trying to look smart. Your arrogance knows no bounds. I'm glad you can read his books and think his theories are far fetched but some are -kind of- realistic. It means a lot to me that maybe one day we can have dinosaurs like in Jurassic Park. Thanks for taking time from your busy lab research to fill us in on your theories...oh wait you don't work in a lab.
