"Pirates of the Caribbean 4" is Disney's Biggest Film of All Time Overseas

Posted: June 15th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
"Pirates of the Caribbean 4" is DisneySubmit Comment
"Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" has become Disney's highest grossing film of all time overseas, earning $696 million in international territories. It's also the fourth biggest international earner of all time, behind "Avatar" ($2 billion), "Titanic" ($1.2 billion), and "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King ($742 million), which it's on track to surpass.

"On Stranger Tides" has now jumped the $900 million mark globally, with a total of $907.4 million through Tuesday, easily making it the top film of 2011, at least so far. This means that the domestic take has only been $211.5 million. Experts believe that the film has played better overseas due to booming 3D markets, including Russia, China and Brazil.

Disney believes that "On Stranger Tides" will break the $1 billion mark, a rare feat that only a handful of films have achieved, including "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" ($1.1 billion).

Why? It was easily the worst film of the franchise, and not a very good movie overall. f*cking 3D. I wonder if other countries have the same approach to 3D as Sweden, which will only run the big movies in 3D and only after a few weeks can you see it in regular (and superior) 2D. The problem is that most people won't wait that long, and neither should they. It's a goddamn scam, that's what it is.

Close to the billion mark huh? This Franchise won't stop no matter how bad the reviews. Pretty soon Disney is going to gave to pay Depp a billion dollars to do another Pirates film.

Big deal, that's like 3.5 million per country. It's about market size per revenue earned, not global aggregates.

Walt Disney is rolling over in his cryogenic freezer right right now.

The reason why it has made so much money with the 3-D in those markets especially China is that most cinemas here (China) only have it in 3-D so it is either watch the 3-D one or don't watch the movie at all.

Disney and all the other studios are parasitic bastards.

@freudian

I wouldn't say it was the worst, "At World's End" is the worst.
This one one goes behind "Dead Mans Chest" in order of which is the best, with "Cusre of the Black Pearl" being the best one.
