"Commando" Remake Already Has R-Rated Script

"Commando" Remake Already Has R-Rated ScriptSubmit Comment
About a year ago, it was reported that Sam Worthington (Avatar, Terminator Salvation) was the top choice to star in the remake of Arnold Schwarzenegger's 1985 action film "Commando."

David Ayer (Street Kings, Harsh Times) was on board to direct the new film, which will be a "real world" spin on the main character, retired elite special forces operative who sees his daughter kidnapped and is told she'll die unless he gets on a plane and kills the rival of a nasty exiled dictator.

Collider has now caught up with producer John Davis to get an update. "We have a really great script," he said. "I don't know if it really makes sense to call it 'Commando.' It is the reboot of it. It is David Ayer, who did 'Training Day.' He wrote it and wants to direct it. It is just waiting for the right moment for the studio to want to make it and finding the right actor."

Apparently Worthington is not on board yet. Davis added that the plan is to make the film R-rated. "Definitely. Right now the script that is written is a hard R."

But is it fun? Is it an absolute cheese-fest? If not, I'm out.

Good! Just like how it's supposed to be

They'll have to do a lot of Rambo 4 body-bursting to get this film into R-rated territory.

"Definitely. Right now the script that is written is a hard R."

Has the studio weighed in yet? No? Well then. Pg-13 here we come, and that's fine. The first one wouldn't get an R rating today.

Will they replicate the incestuous relationship between Matrix and his daughter?

Better yet... make it a musical!

A script right? Well here comes some news, The Thing prequel, which is actually finished got R rating officially.

Lots of unecessary gore. And a sequel to a film only highly-regarded in a very small circle of film fans. No one remembers 1982 much these days.

It'll fail. And so will this Commando reboot garbage.

Great script? Oh God. Does this mean no scenes like this one? - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wk-jT9rn-8&feature=related

Nooooooooo.

I trust everyone remembers the Porsche being smashed up... then ok... then smashed up again?

About as consistent as that windshield on RoboCop's car chasing Clarence.

The original is awesome. There is no point to doing this movie whatsoever. I hope it gets canned.

Agreed.

@minkowski: I'm pretty sure it'll fail and it makes me smile, just like when I play my bluray of the original, such a great film, incredible underated and it didn't need an oscar nomination to become a classic. So yeah, looking forward to see it, man.

"I trust everyone remembers the Porsche being smashed up... then ok... then smashed up again?"

Classic goof. Two cars, one a junker, the other likely close to cherry.

And there's not a chance of ice cream in hell that The Thing prequel will do anything but belly-flop fail with both audiecens and critics. I hope it does. The first film is a classic horror flick and there's no need to retread it.

There was a remake of Commando with a "real world" spin but without cheese recently.

Rob Roy played the main character.
minkowski writes:

Dolph Lundgren made a few straight to the trash films that share many similarities with Commando, and the Russians made a version. Also:

A sequel was written by De Souza and Frank Darabont, based on the 1979 book Nothing Lasts Forever by Roderick Thorp (which is, itself, a sequel to his 1966 book The Detective, made into a film in 1968 featuring Frank Sinatra and Lee Remick), but Schwarzenegger was not interested in making a sequel as his previous sequel (Conan the Destroyer) was less successful critically and did less well domestically at the box office. The script was reworked with a new central character, eventually played by Bruce Willis, and was retitled Die Hard.

Bullsh*t! The original is perfect(ly cheesy), a remake is a waste of money. Besides, where will they find another fat Australian with a porn stache who wears chain mail 24/7?
ksplatt writes:

No god damnit...Leave the cheesy action movies alone. They don't need to be remade, especially Ahnold and Stallone movies. 80s action was the best!
iceskateuphill writes:

Well nothing will ever compare to the original, such a macho movie with an incredible bodycount and perfect one liners. If its supposed to be real world a lot of the elements that made the first one so great will have to be written out, like a lacking airport security and cell phones, but as long as its hard R I'm in.
Kurskij writes:

"and the Russians made a version"

Oh, yes, that sh*t looked epic. The whole nation had a good laugh given how popular Commando was in the late 80's and early 90's.

Those f*cking "Bourne" movies have alot to answer for.

Now every f*cking action movie to do with the Special Forces has to be like them.

Don't get me wrong, I love the "Bourne" movies, I just don't want every army/special forces inspired action movie to be like them.

"Commando" is a brilliantly under-rated movie, it is one of the few action movies where none of the characters gets on your nerves, leave it alone.

@jdl107

You may be right on that one, but compared to some of the movies now, she isn't/wasn't that irratating.

I was thinking more about the kid as most action movies now have such irratating children that you want to climb into the movie and kill them yourself.
nawtnt writes:

Why remake Commando?

The original movie was a classic, oh well that now the remake one is a R rated movie, it might be good.

I hope David Ayer does the film well.

Hollywood is starting to run out of ideas as they don't notice that there are lots of video games that can be turn into movies such as Halo, Metal Gear Solid, Call Of Duty etc.
