Matthew Modine's "The Dark Knight Rises" Role Revealed

About a week ago, it was reported that Matthew Modine (Full Metal Jacket) had joined the cast of Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" and will play a character named Nixon.

At the time, details were being kept a secret, but now comes word that Modine will be "a politician and a key villain." No word if the character has anything to do with the former US President. Modine will be joining a growing list of villain in the film, including Bane (Tom Hardy) and Catwoman (Anne Hathaway).

"The Dark Knight Rises" will film in Pittsburgh, New York, Los Angeles, India, England and Scotland. It is set to hit theaters on July 20th, 2012.

Hey, WP...it'd be nice to know where this come from. We don't believe most of the stuff on here regarding rumors, and not naming the source of information regarding one of the most secretive directors in the world.....doesn't really make anyone want to take it serious.

I heard from a guy that Matthew Modine plays Joker from Full Metal Jacket again, and wants to take over for Heath Ledger, who is still alive in secret for us on this film. Now go post that as a headline. It carries the same weight as the yours.

Catwoman probably won't be a full villain by the end, but yeah, I agree we are getting a few too many rumors about this. But I guess that's what's going to happen when you get a director who doesn't reveal much beforehand, a cast with a lot of big names and a release date so far in the future. (Far in the future when the movie was confirmed anyway.)

Batman will have to call a Swat Team to fight all the villians he will have in this movie

Seriously what happened to one vilian a movie

Nolan should have left 2 face out of the last film

Joker basically made the movie

Everytime 2 face was shown I was hoping the scene would end

With all these character vilians I dont see how this is going to turn into a great movie

I really hope they don't over villan us with this. Also, they aren't shooting in Chicago this time?

Take that for what you will.

I dont understand why this isnt being filmed in Chicago like the first 2...Unless they arent planning on having much action take place in the city of Gothman or theyre just using shots from the first 2 of the city. Either way, seems very strange.

Just because they say someone is playing a villain doesn't mean they will be a big villian in the movie. Batman Begins had 3 main villians and the Dark Knight had 2 main villians and about a half dozen small mob boss villians. It's probably the same thing for the new movie

I'm glad its not shot in chicago,it made Gotham look in the last movie look like...chicago.

f*ckin people jump to conclusions way too fast, the movies not even made yet and people say that its not going to be a great movie just because of rumors about whose a villian whose not...

I hear Nolan is bringing Burton in on the project and they plan to cast Depp as the Riddler and Carter as Poison Ivy. Then Nolan said f*ck it and just started calling random people in the Greater Chicago Area phonebook.

Soooo.... Basically, he's the f*cking Justin Hammer of TDKR. Great news, douchebags! Wake me up when the trailer drops. After this weekend, it might take some of Bane's Venom to do so. We'll see.

I don't understand why people are thinking that this film is already overstuffed with villains. Just look at the villains that were in the previous films:

BATMAN BEGINS
Ra's Al Ghul/Henri Ducard
The Scarecrow
Carmine Falcone
The Ra's Al Ghul Decoy
Victor Zsasz

THE DARK KNIGHT
The Joker
Two-Face
Salvatore Maroni
The Chechen
Lau
Gambol
The Scarecrow

The truth of the matter is, no matter whether or not Modine's character is a villain or not, Nolan has proven that he can balance the major and minor characters well throughout an epic story, so we should not be too worried about The Dark Knight Rises. It appears that Bane will be the main villain, while Catwoman will probably be more of a vigilante/anti-hero, and then we'll have minor/mob-based villains.

I have no doubt that Nolan and his cast will pull it off.

Its not filming in Chicago but its nice that they filming in NY, PA, and supposedly maybe NJ too..They keepin' it fresh with new locations..

Besides Chicago may no longer be "Gotham" but it will be "Metropolis" this end of summer when Snyder and Co. start filming there

The Modine as a villian? Some weak...HOWEVER-COMMA...in the hands of Nolan and Co., there could be a chance...
